I think I screwed up by submitting a cheating wife story

I recently rejoined Literotica to upload some of the stories I've been posting on Reddit, and I thought I'd try my most recent one here.

I haven't been on here regularly for probably 15 years. I had somehow forgotten how much Lit users hate "cheating wives" stories. (They're very popular on Reddit!) After reading some posts in the Author's Hangout I realize I probably messed up. That story will NOT do well here.

Is there some way I can delete my story while it's still pending approval? Sorry if this has been covered in another thread. Haven't seen this explained. I wouldn't really want to waste Laurel's time reading it if it's going to be widely hated anyway.

EDIT:

A few of you have PM'ed me saying you love cheating wife stories and would love to read it. To save you the trouble, you can go read it here:

My Husband Doesn't Know I Was Creampied by Two Strangers in a Public Toilet

Before you do that, think carefully about what you mean by "not do well here."

It's true, Literotica is plagued by a substantial group of readers who hate cheating wives stories (unless they get punished). They will downvote your story. Your story may not have the score you'd like it to have.

But that doesn't mean it won't do well. You will have a lot of readers, because Literotica has a lot of readers. You will have a large pool of readers who DO like these stories. If they like your story they may give you favorable comments and mark your story as a favorite.

The numbers don't tell the whole story. If you want your story to connect with the largest possible audience of readers who like this kind of story, this is a good place to do it, as long as you can accept and deal with the fact that a substantial group of obnoxious readers won't like your story.

To answer your question, I think you can just open it up again while it's in pending and delete it--if no other way, you could highlight all of the entry material and zero it out, I think. Haven't done it myself.

Open the pending folder, find the gear icon next to the story, and click it. There is an orange "delete" button in the bottom left of the window that opens. ( The settings you selected for allowing voting/comments are displayed on the top of this new, small window. )

Depending on the story it may not have to go in loving wives. If she takes on multiple partners it can go in group sex. It can go in erotic couplings which is a catch all for stories that don't fit other categories.

I personally believe the haters in LW enjoy these stories and feel disgusted by how aroused it makes them. Kinda like a homophobe that faps to gay porn. It may have something to do with the fact that they write alimony checks to their ex who is banging some other guy. Just my opinion.

Thanks Simon! This is a good way of putting it into perspective.

I think that every erotica platform has such a different audience. I would like to expand my repertoire a bit. I've been starting to sell custom written pieces and I am trying to go out of my comfort zone and cover topics that I haven't before. It's actually my first cheating wife story. I would like to at least try to write some stories that will perform well here, as a writing exercise. Maybe I should get out of my head a bit, and just focus on experimentation and banging out new material without being too married to the outcome/rating.

Oh yes! Perhaps I should have put it in "Group Sex", as it involves a threesome. I wasn't certain if "Group Sex" would be acceptable for a threesome, though? It also involves impregnation, so perhaps I should have submitted into that category. There's a pregnancy category, isn't there? I did put notes in there saying I wasn't certain which category was best for the story, and for Laurel to choose whichever category she deemed best. It's my impression she just tends to do that anyway, so maybe that was redundant. I've had my previously submitted stories moved into different categories than the one into which I initially submitted them before, on my old account.

EDIT: Okay, there is no "Pregnancy Risk" category or anything similar to that. I don't know why I thought there was! I guess Group Sex category will have to do!

I 100% agree with you that the haters are actually aroused by cheating, but ashamed and once they have achieved post-nut clarity are enraged by what they've just read and feel the need to lash out!

Thank you! I was able to figure it out. I have deleted it, and would like to re-tool it, change the title and submit it to the "Group Sex" category.

I love how supportive the community is here. I have missed Lit!

I suspect that Group Sex readers might react negatively to a cheating wife. Despite the trolls and 1 bombs, Loving Wives is safer.

Be brave, ride the waves.

Oh no, really?

Okay. I literally had just re-submitted it a half hour ago and just saw this post. I've now re-submitted again into the "Loving Wives" category upon your suggestion. I suppose no matter what I'm going to run into haters and it won't be highly rated, but I don't care about rating as much as I do wide readership, so I guess I'll just take the L when it happens.

I just wanted to say welcome back.

No nuggets of insight from me on the LW category; it's something I've avoided but I can't say I would even know how to write a good story on the topic. Good luck!

:)

First thing ya' gotta do is not worry about what others think.

This world ain't about slaps on the back.

Don't sweat it. I've been on LW twice, and I think I've gotten a 3.19 and a 3.42. I'm somehow reminded of the Jack Nicholson character in Mars Attacks! who says, "We still have two of the three branches of government working, and that ain't bad." (The Capitol building with all of Congress in it has just been blown up.) You will get some caustic comments, probably, but some good ones too. Oddly enough, even with the downvotes, there will be other people who favorite it. The readership will be substantial.

So don't delete it; let it rip and see what happens. Rebut the negative comments if you have something to say, but otherwise ignore them. Have some popcorn and a soda while you watch the section churn along.

Thanks! Yeah. It's not that I'm afraid people are going to "1-bomb" my story to oblivion or be mean to me on the internet as much as I'm trying to be strategic about the best way to promote myself. It's a learning process, and I am trying my best to understand what my niche is. Just experimenting and learning right now.

I'm curious to see what kind of reception my stories get here. I've just submitted three, and I can see how all of them have elements to them that may be unpopular on Lit, but then again maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. The main thing is to just keep creating, take negative feedback onboard to make adjustments where I am able and keep pushing forward, and trying to improve.

So, you don't think your story will do well here at Lit in Loving Wives. What do you mean do well? Are you looking to just get a score of 4.5 or higher? Are you looking for a lot of praise in the form of comments from the readers?

Now I have only ventured over to redit on a very few occasions and found it very hard to navigate and very archaic. Now I know Lit isn't the most up to date website but it has been constructed to be very easy to navigate. Do they have a scoring system on redit? I know the readers can leave comments, have you ever gotten a mean, nasty comment?

Now, not every story here will do great, get a red H, but this is the premiere site with over a million visitors a day who are just looking for something to read. If they come here looking for pictures of naked ladies, they are directed to a different site. If they want to read fiction about sex and romance and other things people do to each other or themselves, they come here.

Not everyone will win the prize. Not everyone will even come close to winning the prize. Such is life. If you want a trophy for participating keep posting at redit. If you want to compete with other you're in the right place. Not everyone is a winner here.

Then there is the question which is a title of another thread... Why to you write?

This is a good question. I would like to be a professional writer. I started out writing erotica for pleasure. I have always loved reading erotica, and I started to feel like it was hard to find exactly what I was looking for, so it would be better if I wrote it myself. I don't only write erotica, of course, but it is my favorite genre to write. I've been writing erotica on and off for probably the past 20 years.

I think the dream would be to get a level of reader engagement and to build my fan base on Literotica, if that sort of thing is possible for me here. It does seem that there are people who have started out on Lit and are now making money off of their writing. It had not occurred to me that this was a possibility before, but people spontaneously started asking me to write custom erotica based off of my Reddit stories, and I've made some money (albeit a small amount so far) from writing commissions. I am interested to see how far I can go with this endeavor.

The scoring system on Reddit is based on "upvotes". My stories have been relatively successful there based on the amount of upvotes they have received. I, too, found Reddit difficult to navigate and strangely constructed at first, but I am used to the interface now and I am actually quite fond of it.

Users are also able to follow their favorite Redditors, and I've begun to amass a small fan base there.

As for negative comments, I have had one or two rather bizarre comments, but not necessarily a "mean and nasty" one. Most of the comments on my stories have been positive.

I think the only reasonable answer any writer has to "Why do you write?" is that I'm compelled to, that I have to write. I don't necessarily have to write erotica, but I do love doing it.

I don't know if I care about "winning at Literotica". My reason for being here is to see if it is any help in promoting myself as a writer. Perhaps it will not be. On the other hand, I also see Literotica as a sort of erotica boot camp. Engaging with the community and getting advice from other authors forces me to confront my own shortcomings and, hopefully, become a better writer by taking onboard constructive criticism. I also like the fact that there are contests, challenges and exercises, and that it's a community. I know that when I am forced to try new challenges and get out of my comfort zone, that's when I improve.

It's funny that you think they will hate a cheating wife story. I had to change categories because I was swamped with people complaining that the wife in my first story didn't cheat. They liked the other two better because she was also with someone else, but again there were complaints that she didn't cheat.

I think Loving Wives is a bit bipolar and a lot of really good stories get ignored by people that don't want to wade through all the toxic stuff. I think it would be really good for the site to make a separate category for cheating/cuckholding. As is, it can be a little damned if you do, damned if you don't.

If this is your goal, then you should strive for the widest possible audience, and ignore scores and negative votes. Gunning for the highest possible score and most consistently approving readership is a trap, in my opinion, because in the pursuit of a high score you end up doing things that narrow your audience, and that makes no sense to me.

Loving Wives is the second-most read category of stories at Literotica, after Incest (which is number 1 by a big margin). If you submit cheating wife stories to Loving Wives, you probably will maximize your potential readership. You'll get nasty votes and comments from the BTB crowd, but you'll probably also get the greatest number of appreciative readers, and comments and favorites.

I've submitted some cheating wife-type stories in the Exhibitionist category and received good responses, too, because the stories emphasize a good deal of exhibitionism along with "extramarital" activity.

You might also consider the following categories to publish in if your stories contain elements of them in addition to cheating wives: interracial, anal, group sex, mature, fetish.

Some of the most successful writers, artists, filmmakers, musicians, and so forth may have been influenced by those who came before them, but they also broke new ground on their own. They knew what the "rules" were, and then they went and broke them. They weren't afraid to go out in their own direction.

I once said to a graphic design teacher, "I'm not sure people will get why I'm doing this certain thing - why I find it interesting." I think her reply was, "If you like it, then they will recognize your enthusiasm for it."

Really? Interesting!

Well, I hope the story gets some page views at the very least. Thanks!

I recently had a similar problem with a story I wrote called 'Grumpy Humphrey's Easy Wife' where a strict and stern high school teacher's floozy of a wife makes a fool of him by having affairs all over town.

Initially I intended posting it in Loving Wives, but given that the husband knows of his wife's infidelity and is unhappy about it but does nothing about it it doesn't really qualify as a cuckold story. And it would have enraged the Burn the Bitch crowd, as the wife shows signs of being a sociopath. As well as having affairs, the wife has caused in trouble in the past by bouncing checks, has never told her husband that her youngest brother is in fact her son who she had as a teenager and she can be vindictive in other ways, such as spitting in her husband's dinner. The wife mocks and scorns her husband for his impotence when he can't get an erection, and when he does she will often refuse to have sex with him. And the wife 'wins' in this story, she wins by a country mile and does everything she wants to do while the husband loses at every turn.

In the end I put the story into Group Sex as the main erotic focus is the Jezebel-like wife inviting three guys and two girls who played a Halloween prank on her husband into the house and having an orgy with them in their marital bed as well as drinking all his beer. I think I would have gotten death threats if it went into Loving Wives, plus I had put a lot of effort into the early 1960s setting for this story and wasn't sure if the LW crew would appreciate it.

However, in Group Sex the story was kind of a bomb, it has a poor score of 3.40 and didn't get much attention from readers. Maybe they don't like cheating wives or nasty stories in this category?

Category definitely seems to have an arbitrary effect on scores. My current scribbles are mostly going into NC/Reluctance, and the feedback has been positive. The one chapter that didn't have a NC vibe I put in the Exhibitionist & Voyeur category. Thousands fewer views and a lower score. I don't think the writing in that part is any better or worse than the rest, so the category is clearly a factor.

Incest will get the most views, followed by LW a distant second. The number of views is greatly affected by category.

IF you have a series don't put it in different categories. This may deter some people from reading it. Pick a category that fits the series, then use tags to differentiate teh chapters.

Each categoryhas it's own unwritten rules. for example

LW BTB is AOK, Cucks/Hotwives are hated.

Incest stay away from Non con, minimize Step family. They want loving blood relations.

BDSM wants male tops and female bottoms. Fem Dom does poorly.

Read teh boards learn what each category wants and ypu'l do fine. Or just write what you want and grow a thick skin.

I think combining genres can always be a little risky if you're worried about your rating, especially combining the more controversial ones. Incest readers might not like any BDSM with their family shenanigans, and vice versa.
