Life Under Mayor Bill "Beirut" De Blasio

1970s All Over Again

Lived in NYC in the middle 1970s. Never saw 5th look like this - but NYC is headed back to the 1970s. The money will move out and the city will be looking at bankruptcy again. Wall Street probably has too much money tied up in real estate to pull out entirely - but their workforce will be working from the suburbs and safer cheaper states in the south and west. Companies that don't have to be in NY - won't be for very much longer as there are much safer and cheaper places to do business.

When will this happen specifically, which companies will actually do this and where will they go, exactly?

Soon, to where it is safe and replacing windows and rebuilding isn't a weekly occurrence.

This isn't an answer to my questions. DWW began a paint-by-numbers picture and left it unfinished. Can you finish it for them?

Where is it safe? From the virus crisis that is the root of the problem?

Don’t worry. They want people like you to stay.

The Virus didn't burn down, destroy Fifth Avenue in NYC, steal everybody's shit, kill dozens of people, and shoot dozens of others.

I posted a video of the boarded up ruins. It doesn't matter anyway, NYC is doomed and will never be the same.

They aren't "ruins." They are businesses with deep pockets that will grind out the virus interruption better than anyone else. And NYC will outlast your ass even beyond the time you finally haul it to Idaho for the final stage in your twilight life.

I live here, guy. I work incredibly close to Fifth Avenue and know the area like the back of my hand. All you got is yap and yap is useless energy. :D

Explain the rise in shootings, murders, and street crimes. The destruction of business property downtown. Explain the drop in rent prices, especially in commercial spaces. Why is Cuomo begging rich people to return to NY? Why is the NY police union endorsing a presidential candidate for the first time in 30 plus years, a Republican?

The crime rate has always been like that here in fluctuation. The yap from Herbs like you looking in from the outside has always been the same. The diff is that you're just focusing on here more thanks to the Covid Crisis. Fifth Avenue isn't a barometer of anything except Fifth Avenue.

Begging rich people to return? Ha! They didn't leave, they just have the funds to break out for an extended vacation. Hudson Yards, where J Beezy has his Honeycomb Hideout, laughs at your plebe ass licking at his chops. Like I said, you don't live here and all you know about is all that's picked for you to read. Come here instead of Idaho if you have the brass balls and learn about reality for a change. :D

NYC is a disaster.

A year ago, it was a wonderland.
Today it is a hellhole. Third World. Crime ridden. Ghost town. Depressing. Graffiti. People eye each other suspiciously.
I cannot believe what that guy did to the city I love(d).

No it doesn't, not like this. We haven't seen this kind of crime since Dinkens.

Yeah sure it's been going on for a long time:

It doesn't take many to sink NYC, 70-80% of the tax base of the cities 8 million population is financed by less than 40,000 rich citizens, of whom many are fleeing.

"We?" Who's "we?"

You don't live here, guy. And learn how to spell a man's name right if you're gonna use him as an example.

Everybody who's actually "fleeing" are people who never wanted to make community here in the first place. They cannot be catered to in this pandemic turndown and as a result, their privileged illusions about this city and having a lifestyle they could floss off on Instagram went bust. Nobody wanted or needed those fuckers here in the first place and all they ever did was drive up the cost of living while gentrifying nabes and displacing longterm residents who actually make community.

The real wealthy people who've set up shop here that you love dick riding from across the country thru your monitor never left. They can afford to take extended vacations to their getaway cabins in the wilderness until shit blows over and cleans up. The true worker class that keeps this city going continue to bust their asses every day in the grind, masked up and knuckling through. Like I said, you don't live here and you got nothing but yap.

I don't have to live there, I know how to read. I've been to NYC a few times. I'd never want to live there. It's an old worn out city, a crowded rabbit's warren.

You mad, bro?

That's quite a yap for you. Using (mostly) big boy words and easy on the pictograms

"Privilege" is a dog-whistle for white, successful taxpayers and people that "gentrify" high crime areas that you wouldn't be caught dead in into the sort of "community" that you claim to be "building" by merely flitting into the bars, taco shops, and noodle emporiums.

For what it's worth there are people of color actually turning neighborhoods around too. They got "privilege?" Must be some light-skinned ones since you insist there is a hierarchy of privilege based on the color of a man's skin rather than the content if his character.

Good luck with hanging on if your neighborhood loses all those evil, "privileged" taxpayers. It takes money to keep the mongol hoards at bay, and NYC is bleeding it.

Yeah, visiting ain't living. Only true players can walk the walk while tourists can only talk. Keep "reading," it's all you got going for you. :D

I'll pay $100 if you livestream you walking through the actual ghetto at night.

Yeah, fuck that shit. Tourists can decide to never return as well. I went there on business.

You know what, that was a little harsh of me, buddy. I apolly-gize. There's nothing wrong with being a tourist.

It takes a special breed and bearing of person to be able to not only exist in a city like this, but also to live in it. That's the difference between those who do so and those who come in just to bop out when things get a little hairy. They never belonged in the first place and should've remained tourists, like yourself.

I definitely understand why Idaho is more your speed at this twilight stage of your life. Get in where you fit in, after all! :D

Actually you don't understand. I didn't come as a tourist. I didn't want to go to NYC, but I did so on the wishes of a client. You live in a vertical hive. I live in places that go out instead of up, places where all the land hasn't been used up and people can move around freely and efficiently as "individuals" unconstrained by a railroad track, a train schedule, or somebody else's car.

American individuals came out West to get away from the stinking confining shit holes of places like NYC and Boston, where people were crowded like cattle, where crimes rates were higher than anywhere in the alleged "wild west," just like they are now. You aren't tough enough, independent enough, self sufficient enough, or freedom loving enough, to live in the kind of places I'll be living and enjoying the rest of my life in.
