Big 10 cancels Fall Football

Soooo sad! Feel sorry for the seniors. :rose:
They may yet be fine. Routine redshirts years, if they have not used one already, are an option for many seniors. The NCAA may yet decide to not count this as a year of eligibility even for the rest. The current players may end up getting an extra year of school covered by scholarship and still getting their senior season.

High school seniors and those near the bottom of current college depth charts could be in trouble, though. Graduation from high school is happening...or they are academically ineligible. They will be competing for scholarship slots that are suddenly not vacating. That is going to make the chance of getting scholarships drop for those just entering college. Some with scholarships may also lose them to make room for better players.

ACC and SEC announced tonight that right now they still plan on playing.

I'll believe that when I see it.

That's the problem: not the willingness to give another scholarship season to the seniors, but the need to create room for incoming freshmen when there's a strict limit on scholarships (and the bigger schools aren't allowed to give partial scholarships for football). I actually think that's one reason they're saying there's going to be football in the spring — to burn off that year they've promised.

I personally don't see how you can have in-person classes and then say it's too dangerous for football, when football players are actually being monitored and tested all the damn time. The players are going to be in more potential danger going to classes than they will be outdoors on the field.

Most of the Big 10 schools are in states that supported Trump.
Trump fucked up the Coronavirus response so now they don't get college football.
Karma is a bitch.

I disagree because teams will have to travel, which exposes them to the possibility of contracting the virus especially if they have to fly. Plus you can socially distance and wear a mask in the classroom. That really does not work on the football field.

As for high school seniors, the tough thing is they may need a strong season to earn a college scholarship. If the season does not take place, good luck trying to walk on at a college.

D1 recruiting is absolutely fucked this year....possibly for the next 2-3 years. All the traditional football powerhouses will not have the usual pipeline of quality prospects. This is an excellent opportunity for some second tier schools to move up and establish themselves.

Might see a lot of really good players going to NCAA Division I FCS football programs

I'm beyond sad.

I know it's probably the right decision but it doesn't make it any less painful.

Go Bucks!!!

Yeah, those schools are so concerned about the players' health they are going to have a spring football season, two months off, then a fall football season.

If I was a football coach, I'd redshirt players who are diabetic or predisposed to Covid and put the rest of the guys on the field and play ball.
For fuck's sake, this is America. We're shitting-our-pants-scared of a virus that has claimed fewer lives than pneumonia and has killed no one, no one, as healthy as college football players.

If flying was a vector,
then why aren't flights grounded?

And as usual, this will fall hardest on minority players...

;) ;)

Exactly, considering the SARS-CoV-2 death toll for college athletes...

This is a purely political ploy.

It isn't about the mortality rate of college aged students. An intelligent person understands this. Sucks when those in charge decide to get outside, impartial counsel based on facts instead of listening to the stable genius huh?

No one believes the lies of a failed traitor...except traitors.

You, of course, assume that you are an intelligent person...

yet, my post went over your head.

Go pick up prayer rugs, moron.

Not at all. Your post tried to insert politics into a decision that wasn't based on politics. I simply pointed that out. Here are the facts. Each university has hired their OWN medical counsel. So has each league. Why would they do that? Politics? Or to remove politics and listen to the best knowledge available?
