Does anybody have a french bulldog?

I accidently dognapped one, once.

I stole him out of his yard, thinking that he was my friend's escaped dog that a different friend was watching a couple of doors down from my place.

He went along with me, I put him in the dog sitting friends yard. He waited till I left, escaped and went to his actual home none the worse.

Turns out, the dog sitter had taken the fog somewhere, and the neighbors up the street happened to have a dog that looked close enough.

Was she a witch

Unless you get a shelter dog, you're funding a breeding program akin to torture. Deliberately creating an animal that will never be able to breathe freely, just because they look cute, is monstrous.

All Bulldogs, British and French are deliberately bred to be deformed. Significant numbers of both breeds are destroyed at birth because of this. Underdeveloped lungs and deformed hips are commonplace. Not cute: ever.

I see you've met some British women.

Canine Comprachicos

Why do mutt owners always attack people with enough money to buy purebreds?

I would suggest a Boston Terrier....being partly where frenchies come from they similar with all the personality and significantly reduced health issues, excellent people dogs that aim to please.

Requires mild but regular exercise, low maintenance, relatively small without being totally fragile.

Bostons> Frenchies.

I'm sure some people will remember my prize winning poodle. A healthy, athletic dog, from parents who were hip & eye scored and tested for genetic disease.

I bought a pedigree primarily because I had young children and needed to know exactly what I was getting. Now they've left home... well there are shelters full of dogs who need a home. Pedigrees included.

These two dogs have already made me take the vow:

Never again.

Ha!!

I still crave poodle company. I'm occasionally tempted to get another. It's nice to have a decent dog from a pup, with perfect manners and free from behavioural issues.

Larry was a shelter dog. Best dog I've ever had.

We have three cattle dogs (one red and two blue heelers) on the property. Two of them are past it and getting deaf (a common problem) My manager's wife sends the youngest dog out to fetch the kids in for dinner sometimes, she (the dog) always seems to know where to find them. Very loyal and protective but they do not make good pets, - very tough, but too energetic, need lots of space, and they are quite happy to herd people and nip your ankles if you are too slow.

Breeders say you can pet them, but they can get short tempered in a confined space with no exercise. That has resulted in them being one of the most abandoned dogs in Oz. I like them but not suitable for most people.

I always knew there had to be something in your past.;)

Never knew that. I am not getting one any time soon-if ever. My cat rules the house-he just let's us live here.

What vets say.

Yeah, it's pretty grim. I think the kennel club should do more. Perhaps refusing to register pups of certain breeds without health checks on the parent... But then, people often don't care that much if they're registered or not.

You could always import one from eastern Europe. there are some very knowledgeable breeders there, papers and customs checks dont seem to be a problem and you can pay in various internet based ways.

Personally Im probably on my last couple of dogs I dont think i could go through the rainbow bridge stuff again.

Or i might get a big fuck off wolf hybrid or northern Inuit dog, maltreat it and let it eat me when i die. recycling, circle of life....
