It seems to be a forgotten day, ok So USA mark it on a different day to us, but what, if anything will you do to mark it?

15th August 2020 75th anniversary

Yes. But for Hiroshima and Nagasaki, my father would have been part of Operation Olympic to attack the Japanese mainland.

He lost friends in Japanese POW camps.

do you know anything about the weirdly named ''operation zipper'' (it seems it was its genuine title)

Ive been looking at old photos from the time - it still shocks me how young they looked, especially when i put in the context of what little my dad ever said about it. zip wires on sissal rope, practising things 'under live fire' and various hints about why he liked Malta.

Greetings from across the pond. This is the 80th Anniversary of the summer of the Battle of Britain. I watched the movie this past Saturday. Always a thrill watching “ real planes” do the flying👍 I mark all the important dates of the American Revolution, our Cavil War, & WWI & WWII. I either watch a movie related to a date, or action. Or thumb through of my many books. When I was working i usually brought the date up,& see the reactions of people. Thank God for Churchill’s iron will & fortitude. Always keep an eye out for the shrinking pool of WWII vets, was easier when I was working at the Hospital & shake the hand. Nice to see there are still a number of people who remember & care. Thanks for your post!👍

Is he also a Gurkha? I am guessing not.

No. During WW2 all Gurkha officers were British. Obviously they had to be able to speak Gurkhali and keep up with the Gurkhas who moved fast through the jungle and scared the Japanese.

The Gurkhas were not averse to beheading any wounded Japanese. That way, the Japanese soldier couldn't play dead and shoot advancing troops in the back.

picked up the pyro today for next Saturday, will fuse it over the week.

That's a great idea. The vajay should have its own day.

I'm a cunt-centered self.

In order to not repeat History, we need to understand it.

The alliance between Hitler-Japan
baffles me.

Hitler sent Jews, Gypsies and vulnerable Germans (mentally or phisically ill) to the gas chamber.
Yet he formed an alliance with people who, by a racist's worldview, would have been fodder for gas chambers.

Yes, some might argue, it was merely strategic.
I just don't think that a racist could contain himself to such a degree.

I think that Hitler's cut-throat attitude towards Jews, Gypsies and vulnerable Germans (mentally or pysically ill) was based on other criteria.

Balance of powers.
He knew he was going to go east for living room.
Russia was to the east and having them tied up in the Far East was advantageous.
