For years the splinter was in my mind: hints, coincidences, rumours that The Matrix Series was a metaphor for being transgender until 2012, when Lana came out.

If you needed more explanation Netflix have opened a thread with heaps more information and that a fourth Matrix film is planned for 2022. We all need to be patient and that will be something to look forward to - imagine being able to even go to a cinema!!

Anyway, on topic: I never picked up on this before, it's something of a revelation to me and makes me appreciate the series more. If The Matrix 4 happens, I really hope it's good!

Once I heard the rumours I saw the hints, but then you can find any kind of message if you look and interpret with a preconception. The W sisters have said they both had splinters in their minds, but at the time of making the first movie hadn't quite put their finger on what it meant. I find that it a puzzle: they dropped so many hints but were still trying to find their personal answers? All the same, they say now it's a metaphor and that's good enough for me.
