i tend to agree with you but for different reasons. if i encounter someone unmasked, i give them a wide berth. if it's not possible, i pinch my nose and hold my breath and turn my back as i pass them. i don't confront anyone because i think it is darwinism at work. if someone is too stupid to take measures for their own self-protection, they deserve to die. and they probably have a family just as stupid, so they should die too. thinning the herd is always a good idea. not wearing a helmet on a motorcycle doesn't mean you'll have a wreck but if you only have one, you'll probably die. same with seat belts, you only need to fly through the windshield one time. so, i have no problem with the non-maskers. go out in public often and breathe deep when you do.

You do realize that wearing a mask isn't for protecting YOURSELF, but to project that you're protecting others FROM your own disease riddled breath, right? Even if you're not sick, the projection is more important than anything else.

the right claims that wearing a mask is only to protect other people from your possible infection. however, if a barrier is in place, it should be just as effective for droplets that i might expel as for droplets trying to enter when i inhale. both sides of a mask should be equally effective as a barrier, according to common sense. my droplets or virus aren't any larger than anyone else's so the protection should work both ways. also, the virus is not free floating in the air like mold spores, it's attached to the moist droplets from the respiratory tract making it most likely to adhere to the fabric of a mask whether inhaling or exhaling. so, how is a mask NOT a form of self-protection?

on the other hand, i don't care who wears a mask. i will, my family does, we all social distance and we're only going out in public when necessary. that means there's a clear field for all of you anti-maskers to go out, congregate, spread the virus to each other and improve society in the process.

Physically disciplining children through any form of striking is teaching them "when you are displeased with someone's behavior, striking them is a proper behavior".

Now, on the personal level, I was spanked as a child (most of my generation was). As an adult I am a person who is capable of using violence to resolve situations. I rarely do because my parents also exercised discipline in spanking - when I got spanked I knew why. So, that taught me the lesson that violence is a proportional and proper response to some situations. (Spanking isn't the only place I learned the lessons of violence - I also learned them in play, sport, war and life.)

The problem is when parents spank randomly (one behavior on one day gets a spanking, but on another day doesn't) and out of proportion.

Personal, I'm an advocate of spanking as a necessary (but harsh) life lesson.
