my choice is 'the third man', the sir carol reed movie with joseph cotten and orson welles. followed by 'vertigo', the alfred hitchcock movie. and then the last 5 minutes of the chaplin film 'city lights' which always reduces me to tears.

post your pick (and i swear if anyone says 'the sound of music' i'm coming to your house with a nail gun and using it on your cranium.)

there's no such thing, but i'll just say seven samurai or ran because i'm a huge nerd and i love kurosawa. also, they're fucking great movies if you got three hours to kill.

The Cannonball Run. It's one of those films where EVERY scene makes your think "ooo I love this bit".

There was a bar here deliberately named after that movie. Don't know if it's still existing now due to the pandemic shutting all the shit down, but if it still lives after we can go in, I'm going in! :D

Rear Window is my personal choice.

Seven Samurai for fucking always. Ran because it was my first Japanese film watch at age 15 with me mum in the indie theaters back in the day, Ghod rest her soul. That was when you could see Criterion/Janus films in the arthouses before they came out on VHS later on.

Godfather 2. Perfection.

Surprised you didn't say Aliens, Director's Cut. You know I'm still watching that shit, even beyond my traditional holiday watch? ;)

Battleship Potemkin. Act 4, the "Odessa Steps" is without peer in Cinema.

The Third Man is a good movie.

I don't know about the greatest, there are a lot of movies that I have never seen.

Ummm... :D

I'm not sure. I love Godfather 2.

My fave romantic comedy would probably be Moonstruck. Cher and Nic Cage. It's hard for me to choose one movie overall.

Shawshank Redemption

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Probably not artistic enough but my personal choices. The Godfather movies (not 3) were great also.

I don't know about the greatest, but definitely underrated:

The Driver.
Vanishing Point (Newman)
Valdez Is Coming
The Final Countdown.
Grand Prix

Godfather 2. Perfection.

Exactly!
And L.A.Confidential is in a similar category.

Heaps of themes and layers, but without the pretentiousness of 'psychological' movies and with the awesome entertainment factor.

ETA
Maybe Carlito's way too, but lower on the list.
