Black Holes Matter

Even though the total amount of matter that exists in the collective mass of all the black holes in the universe is a small minority of matter, that matter does matter.

Without the matter that exists in black holes the universe would drift apart. Therefore it is clear that the matter in black holes has a unifying effect on the entire universe.

It is easy for us to ignore black holes because they can not be seen in the realm of white light. Recently I heard a blurb in the science news that a method was created to be able to "see" black holes.

Since black holes matter and there are now pictures available I thought I would start this thread as a place to post links for pictures of black holes.

Black holes are spread throughout the universe. I am not sure how many have been probed but this would be a great place for a penetrating look at these wonders of nature.

More funding needed

Still no black hole pictures? I can see that NASA needs more funding.

Pictures of Uranus?

Will a picture of Uranus do instead?

It might be worth seeing pictures of Uranus. I have been told that the Hubble telescope has detected a ring of debris around Uranus.

Would more black holes help to keep us from drifting apart?

The universe is actually drifting apart. It could be that black holes help keep galaxies from drifting apart.

Black holes are detectable in wavelengths shorter than visible light, like X-rays.

Here is an image where X-ray emissions are rendered visibly.

Since black holes are really spherical and emitting in all directions, we can’t see the black parts.

If the universe is drifting apart would more black holes help?

There is so much wrong with the above post, I don't where to begin. Try wiki, it's a good start....

Again, incorrect, can you say "Dark Matter" and "Dark Energy".

Black holes by their very nature do not let light escape. However they are detectable by their influence on the near by visible objects we call Suns and Galaxy's.

You do realise this isn't really an astrophysics thread don't you?!

Galactic social distancing is a good thing

Help what? The expansion of the universe is not a problem.

The expansion of the universe is not a problem? Is that because of the value of galactic social distancing?

I am not sure that probing black holes is a good idea, and would prefer not to think of penetrating them at all.

hey ...

If the universe is drifting apart would more black holes help?

Not sure as to the physics of the question ... but I am sure that were there a 'black ho' between you and I --, I am quite certain that our orbits would most certainly be driven apart.

Very disappointed. I thought this thread held promise for other sorts of pictures of more interesting black holes. On the other hand, getting totally lost in a black hole is quite an interesting fantasy.
