Democrats blocked an attempt to include "Medicare for all" in the party's 2020 draft platform.

The Democratic National Committee's platform panel met virtually on Monday to discuss whether the party should incorporate language endorsing Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders's signature policy in its message to voters before the November general elections.

The efforts of "Medicare for all" advocates were thwarted by 125 committee members. The amendment to the 80-page draft document, which will be further debated at the national convention next month, received 36 votes in its favor. Another three members abstained from weighing in.

What's the RNC platform saying--if anything about anything?

What are the Republican plans for the next term? Next month? Next week? Next day? Next hour? Anything?

Building a wall on the southern border Mexico will pay for? Replacing Obamacare with a detailed Republican plan that supports the lower and middle classes? Anything else Putin wants that they didn't get done for the Russians this term?

Chuckles, they got nothing to brag about, or post "success" on anything...oh wait!!!

Why not a great big C&P about how the Republicans are going to cut your unemployment enhancement payment back to $200.00 a week....

Fucking eh!! there is a "success" story if i ever heard of one....

Bernie Sanders delegates mount convention rebellion over 'Medicare for All'

A revolt is brewing among Bernie Sanders delegates three weeks from the Democratic National Convention.

More than 360 delegates, most of whom back Sanders, have signed on to a pledge to vote against the Democratic Party’s platform if it does not include support for "Medicare for All," the petition’s organizers told POLITICO. They argue that single-payer health care is an urgent priority amid a worldwide pandemic and the biggest unemployment crisis since the Great Depression.

The warning is all but certain to set up a clash between Sanders’ most dedicated supporters and presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden, who opposes Medicare for All, at a time when the party is seeking to demonstrate unity ahead of its August convention. Though the petition signers have little chance of revising the platform to include Medicare for All support, they do have the numbers to draw attention to their protest and cause.

It is also likely to trigger fears among Democratic leaders about a repeat of the 2016 convention, when the party’s divides were on public display as Sanders supporters booed the mention of Hillary Clinton.

I guess no one will challenge an RNC platform if there isn't one. :D

Give the loony left all the rope they want.

Then point at them, their trashed cities and say "If you don't want this nation wide? Go vote (R) so we can make sure that shit stays in THEIR states and cities.

Here is hoping the (D)'s continue to support the "Peaceful" looting, vandalism, arson, assault of every kind and murder. :D

*chuckle* It's not that they don't want to go there, it's merely that they don't want that language in the platform. Keep it behind the curtain. :)

So what are Trump’s plans? He seemed somewhat tongue tied when asked by his blowjob buddy Sean Hannity.

Old news.

Nov 3rd vote out Trump.

Nov 4th plan on primarying all the Dems against M4A in 2022.

Got to play the long game.

What's the RNC/Trump plan, board Trumpettes? For next term? For next month? For next week? For the next day? For the next thirty minutes. Hold off on your detracting/deflecting shit. What's the plan, Stan?

How are you going to keep the workers of America alive?

For now the DNC is content to push for adding a public option to the ACA.

If there is a public outcry for MC4A Biden will have more leverage to get what is likely to still be a closely divided congress to capitulate on MC4A.

If the economy and Covid get too bad, I would expect that might happen.

Re-elect Trump, watch you lot continue self destructing at the most accelerated pace seen yet.

How are you going to keep the workers of America alive?

Impossible task, people die. Get over it.

Not until Pelosi and Schumer are retired. Along with another 40 or so Republicrats.

I can see Pelosi and Schumer getting on board with MC4A, but they're not going to do it unless the Republicans sign on as well. Neither political party is going to go it alone on something as monumental as converting the nations healthcare system to single payer. Look at the beating the Democrats took over the fallout from the ACA, despite it being a godsend for many Americans.

It's really a lot like getting agreement on immigration.

If there is a blue wave in November, with Texas, Florida, etc turning light blue, adding a public option to the ACA would be a good starting point to eventually developing a single payer system.

Freedom and private property must be destroyed in the end right comrade??!!

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to enter any hospital, in any state, see any doctor you choose, present just your driver's license or some other id equivalent and get medical treatment? No other questions asked, basically, your good to go after this?

This is what I call a civilized situation where you and your country are all in it together. Unlike the third world situation of health care currently in the USA.

Wouldn't you like to not have to do taxes every year. I sure would! Most other countries don't have their citizens doing taxes(filing). Go figure...I think we are doing something drastically wrong.

Well, if this is Communism (it's not) I'm in!

You mean like they did with the ACA?

Made sure that it had a lot of Republican support,
or was it a pure party-line vote, full speed ahead and damn the consequences?

One of them being Trump???

You just described that which we already have...

Boy, are you ever "woke."

We are not "all in it together" is communism, has nothing to do with civility.

Civility from a political/societal perspective is agreeing to abide by the rule of law and settling conflicts politely in court instead of going all vigilante/warlord/gangster and just doing whatever in the fuck we want.

Suing someone instead of pulling your .45 and knee capping the mother fucker in front of his kids......is civility.

Unlike the third world situation of health care currently in the USA.

The best HC on the planet is not third world....put the crack pipe down.

I don't trust the government, I want my own accountant.

Well, if this is Communism (it's not) I'm in!

We know you're all about communism.

"Progressives" are neo-Maoist, that's why you consider "all in it together" to be civility despite it's consistent history of human tragedy. ;)

The DNC Platform Committee rejected the Medicare for All amendment introduced by longtime single-payer advocate Michael Lighty by a vote of 36-125 during a virtual meeting Monday. The committee also voted down separate attempts to include support for expanding Medicare to children, dropping the Medicare eligibility age from 65 to 55, and legalizing marijuana.

"Shameful. And during a pandemic," tweeted progressive radio host Kyle Kulinksi in response to the defeat of the Medicare for All amendment. "History will not judge this kindly. It's like opposing the New Deal during the Great Depression. Unforgivable."

In an op-ed for Common Dreams on Tuesday, RootsAction.org co-founder Jeff Cohen wrote that "the fact that our nation is the only advanced industrial country without universal healthcare cannot be blamed on Republican obstruction alone."

"It was also caused by Democratic leaders who've spent decades catering to corporate interests (while collecting their campaign donations)—and refusing to fight for universal coverage," Cohen added. "This history of Democratic obstruction and vacillation is why hundreds of elected delegates to next month's Democratic convention have put their foot down."
