so, so far i've seen 3 news reports, including an hour long 'frontline' documentary, about the toll covid-19 is taking on undocumented workers in the u s. i've seen coverage of undocumenteds who work at meat packing plants who are afraid to go to work because someone in their plant has tested positive, farm workers who are in the same situation. all of them are classified as essential businesses thanks to trump, the workers have no choice to go in or get fired.

that said, where is ice in this equation? you know, their whole mission in life is to deport the aliens who are in the u s stealing jobs from citizens. but never a word about a raid on any of these businesses (which have been identified by name). i mean, come on, it's shooting fish in a barrel. where are they?

one is almost led to believe that the whole situation is based on hypocrisy, don't you think?

The whole system needs to be overhauled to find a workable solution to the immigration problem making it easier for choice people to move here to be citizens or come here to work.

We need the help and they need the jobs... Both parties benefit in keeping crooks and bad guys out.

It is amazing with all of our modern Tech we can't work something out.

Poorly thought-out and underdeveloped OP.

For starters, ICE is not Fauci's medical enforcement wing of the government...

Everywhere you go, every business you frequent, with every doctor visit,
you get a screen and I am going to assume here that the meat packing
plants are also screening in order to protect their workers and their
product as well as their mission to keep the food chain moving so,
if for no other motivation, that their own families don't starve.

True and here in WA, they won't let ICE in. Yeah, we're fucked up like that.

Illegals, as lawbreakers, have many reasons to be afraid to go to work...

this is one of the lesser reasons; they are most likely safer here,
being illegal, from SARS-CoV-2 than they are legally back
in their third (and second)-world homes.
This is nonsense.

I worked in a meat-packing plant for several years.
ICE came in once and hauled a lot of people off the line.
By the end of the month, I'd estimate that 90% of them were back...

Yeah, they're scared to death of ICE.

;) ;)

Same face but a new ID with a new SS#. I wish they were afraid or ICE. So afraid they never come here to begin with.

They know that they have allies and supporters here
who really do seem to hate things like ICE
a helluva lot more than they do...

... there are people here who want their vote even.

Next thing you know they'll have them voting absentee................from Tegucigalpa.

Sounds like they are pretty good workers to be back on the line...as good as Americans. Capitalism loves good workers.

Indeed.

What the consumer wants is beef processed by third-world sanitation standards at the lowest possible price.

What the American worker wants is not to have a high-paid job taken away from them
and given to an illegal at half the wage and that's exactly what happened when
I worked there; they brought in illegals at half the price, jacked up the chain
speed and started inventing ways to fire the highest paid legal workers.

That's what Social Justice looks like.

Most likely. My ex did drug patrols and they were always finding people on rafts, often makeshift ones. They'd rescue them. Feed them. Haul them back from whence they came. And repeat... Always the same people.

I have long been an advocate for harsher penalties on the employers
who knowingly or incompetently hire illegals, especially at the
corporate level, which meat packing plants are...

If there are no jobs to be had for illegals,
then they will take the steps required
to come here legally for work with
better pay and conditions.

As it is now, they can be abused with impunity.
Who they gonna call?
ICE???

Quite true.

As has been discussed before, promote the hiring of the cockroaches to a felony. No more slaps on the wrist.

“Woke”: America outsources slavery to the corporations, then buy their goods cheap and wager on the corporations in the stock market to share in the profits.

Money, money, money.

Grease the right palms and the blind eye turns.

Plus, someone has to process your meat / pick your fruit and veg / change the towels and sheets at Mar-a-Lago for the shit wages paid (Americans won’t, but will complain about the ‘cockroaches’ that do), so Walmart can sell Americans things for the low prices Americans want to pay.
