the point that I've been struggling to make is that the current rise in xenophobia (which is starting to make me feel unwelcome and unwanted, every time I interact with random locals)

I envision it as a one time payment with specific laws making any future reparations illegal. It would also mean the end of any other financial assistance in the form of welfare. Reparations would make everything alright. All past "sins" would be forgiven in perpetuity. No more nods to blackness. No Juneteenth, No Kwanzaa, No Black history month. No more talk of police brutality. We will all be square and it will finally be time for the community to sink or swim. They will have their resources, so they should be good to go. And the community will have to realize that their ancestors will be brought into a whole new world of colorblindness. So they should be prepared to take care of their future generations, because once THIS generation gets paid, that's it forever. Be careful what you wish for.
