From 1987 - 1990, Curious Goods was the name of a fictional antique store in Friday the 13th: The Series. The storyline surrounded various cursed items in the shop and the adventures or consequences that befell anyone that came in contact with them.

If you're not familiar with the series, you can read up on it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday_the_13th:_The_Series

Alter the concept and premise to 'Amorous Goods' and let the adventures or consequences be of an erotic nature. This could be a series done by a number of different authors writing to the theme and each submission could fall into almost any of the Lit categories.. Who knows, maybe even a story contest type thing.

i like it

even without checking out the the series it sounds like a fun concept.
maybe some of the items in the store could be a dancers costume from one of the original burlesque halls or mid evil chastity devices etc.

I like it too! & an object would be sinisterly plain, like a guy's bracelet, that calls one's dominatrix forth.

Trying to work out which would be more fun: an evil chastity device, or a medieval one...

I love this. If we had an unofficial "contest"/writing challenge, would you take the reins, jaF0? I've never checked out the challenges over in Author's Hangout so I'm not familiar with how the members run them. But, I've been an advocate since my beginnings on Lit in '99 (yes, not this name) that if 10 or so people were interested in a story idea here we'd have 10 or so different stories. :) I remember, and loved, the Chain stories Lit had(has?). Frankly, I don't even know if Chain Stories is even a category still...

Anyway, I ramble at times. lol

I think it would be a great idea to have a "universal" store owner character and maybe some mutual/same employee characters like NPCs in video games. Perhaps "rules", per se, for this universe to tie in different author's stories.

Me neither, but I'm game.

Well, that's exactly the premise.

"An antique dealer named Lewis Vendredi (played by R.G. Armstrong; "Vendredi" means "Friday" in French) has made a deal with the Devil to sell cursed antiques out of his shop, "Vendredi's Antiques", in exchange for wealth, magic powers, and immortality. In the show's first episode ("The Inheritance"), he rebels against the Devil and breaks the deal. The Devil kills Vendredi and claims his soul for breaking the deal.

After Lewis' death, his shop is inherited by his niece, Micki Foster (played by Louise Robey, credited without her first name, as "Robey") and her cousin by marriage, Ryan Dallion (played by John D. LeMay). They decide not to keep the store, and sell off many of the cursed antiques before being stopped by Jack Marshak (played by Chris Wiggins). Jack was Lewis' friend, a retired world-traveller and occultist who originally collected many of the antiques for Vendredi before they became cursed.

The series follows the protagonists as they hunt down the cursed antiques, which are usually in the possession of people who have discovered their magic powers and are unwilling to give them up."

The three primary characters would carry over into each story, just as they did in each episode of the series.

In thus case, perhaps the business is a former bordello that catered to fantasies (think Red Shoes Diaries). The relative may have been a Madame, or maybe a Dungeon Master who made the evil deal. Say the new owners closed it down and began auctioning off the artifacts before they realized some of them were cursed, or enchanted as the case may be.

Their mission then becomes tracking them down and buying them back. In the TV series, they became involved in the events as they would be here, but in more adult ways.

Just for background and character building information, these are the three roles:

It would almost be necessary for participants to become familiar with the Wiki at least: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday_the_13th:_The_Series

Some of the stories could easily go into the SciFi or non-human fields as well.

A rough opening:

As the deep red Sun began to break over the hills outside the valley and peer through the drapes, Nikki awoke to the unfamiliar surroundings of the small Inn. Yesterday was one she'd never be able to forget. She had attended the reading of the Will of a distant relative she'd never known. She wasn't even sure how the lawyers had found her, but here she was, the new owner of a business no one was fully familiar with. Today she would begin exploring the rooms and storage areas of the place she had slept in for the first time. To say her dreams had been unusual would be a massive understatement. She was somewhat bewildered by the imagery that remained in her consciousness, but was fading rapidly.

Knowing the scale of the task before her, she had contacted her cousin Dylan to seek his assistance. He had been unable to attend the reading, but would be arriving in the coming days. For now, she was on her own as she began to take in some of the oddities of the large master suite she was in. She knew today would be an adventure. She had no idea what the many tomorrows would bring.

Once polished and expanded considerably to frame the concept for others to follow, this would be posted as the lead story. I imagine this should grow to at least a couple of pages to develop the premise and characters. Contributions are welcome as I'm not sure how far I can carry it.

Character:

Vikki ( changing from Nikki above to capture a morph between Mickey and Veronica Mars, another cult TV show ):

Mid to late 20s, attractive, but in a plain Jane, demure way, not seen as eye-candy. Trim and somewhat athletic, but a bit geeky also. Highly inquisitive, quick thinking, analytical, unlikely to let go of something she wants to find out about. Naturally intelligent more than book smart, but a bit short of street wise and unaware of how deep things are about to get.

Think Louise Robey, Kristen Bell, Catherine Mary Stewart, et al.

Character:

Dylan: Also mid-late 20s, a bit overbearing and pushy at times. Too busy being self important to have played sports in school. Able to put his foot firmly in his mouth in one quick move. But also loyal and trustworthy to a fault. What he says, he does. Cousin to Vikki only by marriage, they spent Summers together at family gatherings and developed a bond that both would soon come to depend on in ways they never expected.

I'd like somebody to create the character of the older relative who helps Vikki and Dylan.

The Wiki portrays the original character as:

Jack Marshak is a former stage magician and an expert in the occult. He has travelled all over the world and he has diverse skills including bartending , picking locks, ornamental metalwork, and forgery. He has a great many peculiar old friends. In so far as the trio has a leader, he is it; the cousins often try to work without him but have to turn to him for aid and moral support.

Our name would be something like Marcus or Marshall or maybe something unusual or mystical. Age should be 50s or 60s to allow for life experiences and implied wisdom.

Also note that I haven't done physical descriptions, height, weight, hair color, eye color, measurements, race, etc. I like to leave that open for the reader to interpret.

Vikki is obviously female and Dylan male, but this third, older, wiser character could be female, maybe even with a Wiccan type feeling to pick up on the Occultist flavor of the male character in the series.

The stories should have an overall 'odd' cast to them, but not necessarily supernatural. This series is said to have spawned ideas for series such as Buffy, The Vampire Slayer, The X-Files, Warehouse 13 and possibly even Charmed.

Also consider the nature of stories for episodes of 'Amazing Stories': https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazing_Stories_(1985_TV_series)

The story being tied so tightly to the series makes it something not ideal for me, although I'll look forward to seeing what everyone else comes up with. Should be fun!

If you don't mind, I'd like to use something with a similar base concept that goes in a somewhat different direction in a story of my own, focused more on the shop's customers.

That's really where it should go. Focus on the objects and how the customers are affected. The store and staff could only be minor players in cameo roles just to tie the theme together.

I like this story idea. It would be worthwhile to flesh out the concept of the store, and probably to detach it from the TV show explicitly.

It ties in with something I've been working on because I've been working on a magic item/mind control story concept involving a psychotherapist who begins using an object on his patients to enable hypnosis for the purpose of treating them for sexual disorders and hangups, but of course unexpected consequences ensue and the therapist crosses the line ethically. He could buy the object from the store.

Exactly. The store can figure prominently in the story as the source of the object. Then maybe he returns a time or two to ask questions about it, maybe only dealing with the third, older, wiser character.

Adding random bits of information to this thread more or less as a story runner. Laurel is on board with the idea and wants a short outline to post on the story side. This thread will be a place to gather ideas and will be linked in the story side mention for others to come here and gain insight. Shooting for an October timeframe, or should I say Spooktober, but with the intention of being open ended.

Objects:

Completely at the discretion of the author's creativity. Could be any item found in a brothel, BDSM dungeon, common household item, piece of furniture or article of clothing. However, there must be a reason for it to have been at the business. It must be noteworthy in some way that made it collectible enough to have been gathered by the deceased relative. It should have some age to it as it would have been gathered some 5 years at least before the niece inherits the business.

Characters:

Again, completely at the discretion of the author's creativity. Develop your own characters and the events that befall them after acquiring the item. Perhaps the object affects the character. Perhaps the character finds out the object can affect others and uses it accordingly. Always be mindful of Literotica rules regarding non-consent, mind control, age and so on.

It is NOT necessary to focus on any of the three main characters or the business itself. It IS necessary to feature at least one of them in some way, even if only in cameo appearances simple to maintain continuity with the theme. Simply discussing that your character visited the business to acquire the item and interacted with one or more of the main characters would suffice.

You may also add some base material to the description of the business and the backstory of how this all came to be. A flashback or pre-quel may be an idea.

I think this could be a lot of fun. Like a couple of others here, I would probably have the store or one of its proprietors as a walk-on at most, as an explainer for the enchanted item.

..
I'm going to nick this idea for use when I start Voyages IV. The shop will be on a backwater planet as the crew of the Hoochie Mama lay over to gather any information they can uncover in their continuing search for a missing princess' yacht long overdue and presumed to have met with foul play.

The object/relic will cause problems after they leave and may ultimately lead to finding her or help in the rescue. nice jaFO

Is anything being done with this? Should we begin all of the stories w/ the same introductory text?

I think there's enough information for those that choose to begin working on their stories.

Hadn't really thought about an common introductory paragraph to be used in all entries, but it might work to help tie them all together.
