I do have experience with the police in a major city, including with a family member who behaved stupidly and won a stupid prize for it. Believe the stat is >96% of people who follow the police’s direction have no problems with them.

This is a conflation argument your making...
police = yes overfunded
Firefighters = no, they are mostly volunteer.
Teachers = no, not overfunded.

Philadelphia DA Larry Krasner did a series of radio interviews on this issue and he sums up what a lot of people want and are going to get.

Philadelphia is the 7th or 8th largest City but with funding comparable to cities much bigger(3rd or 4th largest). Over funding police in Philadelphia has not worked so a different approach is needed. I'd encourage you to give his argument a listen.

You conservatives should be down with his argument because it just makes sense ND isn't political.
As a separate issue( don't conflate) you all point to throwing tons of money at education (ie. Inner city public schools) as being a waste of money because it achieved no good results. It's the same thinking applied to police and policing. Again, they are two very different entities and issues(policing and education) anD should be treated independently.
