Redskins name change is coming

"This issue is of personal importance to me," Head Coach Ron Rivera said, "and I look forward to working closely with (owner) Dan Snyder to make sure we continue the mission of honoring and supporting Native Americans and our Military."

Questions:

1) Was it not of personal importance to HC Rivera before he decided to apply for the job? But he did so anyway?

2) "....and our Military"........how does the military relate to the team's name?

FedEx -- which holds naming rights for the stadium the team plays in -- told CNN Business this week that it had asked the team to change its name.

So, private enterprise is voting with its wallet....that's going to rub the right the wrong way, I'm sure.

No longer allowed to use the word "football" in their name.

That is some tough love!

Lame. They need a name change not a review. Native People and Tribes have been very clear on this. Worth noting there’s no mention of any Tribal Consultation which is a telling omission.

A review is distance. A review is lack of ownership.

Fed Ex will pay for the name on the stadium, not that name.

Very Nascarish.

Complete meaningless bullshit. Nothing substantive will come of this. Pure virtue signalling. And of course there will be unintended consequences.

Such as the burning of jerseys already paid for by fans. That's always good for a laugh or seven.

Didn’t Nike already pull their merchandise from the online store?

I know fuck-all about professional sports... but it appears the corporate sponsors have already spoken.

They will always be the Foreskins to me.

That'll give dicks-n-pussies something to talk about . . . .

Next they’ll be wanting to change the name of the Masters golf tournament.

So, what's coming next- What about the Chiefs? Or are the Vikings going to change their name (Because it's offensive to people of Scandinavian heritage, or something?) Or, are people going to object to the name "Cardinals" because of the reference to the Catholic church and thereby, connect the team to child molesters? And maybe there are natives of some small country in southeast Asia who find the term "49er" to be mortally offensive due to some cultural event or nuance.

It's like, people will always find new and creative ways to be offended by stuff. On one hand, I get the argument, but on the other hand, it seems like more and more, you hear stories about people taking this stuff way too far. You can try not to be offensive, but you can only try so hard. I guess I'm saying, people also need to try harder to NOT be offended.

Oh man I love when they do that shit. Go ahead and burn that 100 buck jersey that now is gonna be worth even more. That'll show those people who already have my money!

Vikings, Cardinals, 49ers, you clearly don't get "the argument".

People really have a fit over the very idea of changing the name yet most are definitely not skins fans and they all act like this is something new so it's obvious they haven't been paying attention for the last 30 or 40 years.
I especially like the white people who say it's not offensive cuz ya know, they get to determine that.

Well for sure my Quaker and Amish friend are going to be pissed if they go with Warriors.
