One of the tenants is a micro-brewery with a bar on site. Spoke to the owner yesterday and he said the bars are hopping mad because Abbott waited til last Friday morning to shut them down - after they had stocked up for the weekend. Bars closed. Restaurants that serve alcohol - still open. So you can still spend all day drinking in a restaurant. Go figure. But at least they are now requiring masks. Baby steps.

Indoor dining isn't especially safe either, but most restaurants that I know of are at least requiring everyone to be seated, which imposes a certain amount of distancing automatically even if they're at full capacity.

I think we're really learning a lot about the link between the spread of the virus and air conditioning, which is more mainstream in the U.S. than pretty much anywhere (in retrospect, we probably should have paid more attention to the giant Covid case counts in the wealthier nations of the Arabian peninsula, the hottest countries in the world). Most of Texas would be unbearable 6 months of the year without air conditioning, and I've been around Texans who crank it at full blast once the outdoor temps get above 75.

The reopening of Texas at the same time that summer temps hit in earnest was a disaster waiting to happen.

Houston build a covid facility when they were getting overwhelmed last time and it's still up. We also have a whole hospital that went out of business so if it's still not been sacked it could be used.

Yes, the orders had been lifted for quite a while before the PROTESTS started. They'd been lifted before George Floyd got murdered. So sorry, saying they lifted stay at home orders "so the leftists can riot" is untrue.

Haven't seen a spike in COVID cases in Minnesota where it all began. Or in NYC. Those states are in decline.

Haven't seen a spike in COVID cases in Minnesota where it all began.

The state is experiencing a gradual upturn in new reported cases, but no spikes obviously related to the protests. Follow up Covid testing around neighborhoods which had protests is revealing only background rates of infection of around 1% or so, last time I saw it in the news.
