Has any one got one? Opinions? I need a new mattress and someone said these were fab.

Geppetto, chill out before you jump in here bedsplaining.

Are they coolimg or is the gel purely for comfort?

Is it a bad thing that you can't flip it? I do enjoy flipping a mattress at 2am.

I'm okay with synthetic materials for mattresses.. .

I desperately need a new mattress but there are some logistic problems with getting the old one out and a new one in at the moment so I bought a memory foam 3 in topper for it at Costco. Amazing difference

I want a topper too but memory foam makes me a hot pikey. :(

We've had a memory foam mattress for a couple years, and I quite like it. I expect it would come down to personal preference, but my sleep quality is improved on a foam mattress. They transmit movement much less than a traditional mattress.

Memory foam pillows with cooling gel toppers are heavenly.

Ooh I didn't know you could get cooling gel pillows?

I have the cooling memory foam pillow. Works like a charm. I should look into a mattress as well.

You can get mattresses that fold in the middle if size and space is an issue. We had to do that to get one up a steep set of stairs.

My stairs are evil. You need crampons and grappling hook to get up up most nights anyway.

And I highly recommend them, too. Without it, my pillows get uncomfortably stuffy and hot. I've been using a memory foam pillow with a cooling gel top for the last 6 or 7 years. Lux Living is the brand of mine, but I'm not sure they're currently on the market. Lots of others available, though.

We’re lucky they were within code, or it would have been no master suite for us. The top step was the worst and had actually had to build up the flooring and then ramp it down.

I forgot what those chairs are called that ride you up the stairs.

Oh, I need one of those cooling gel pillows. I hate when my pillow is warm. In fact, just put me on a bed of ice, damn hot flashes.

Stannah stair lifts. :D

FWIW, I've had a Tempur-pedic for over a decade and it's still like new. Very comfortable. No heat issues whatsoever.

ETA: And I've never flipped it, but you can if you want to.

I'll be round later then, get your sheets off.

Cooling gel toppers and pillows are a must! Especially if you hate sweating all night.
I love mine.

If you need heat at night, make your own.

Just today I told my wife I'd like a new mattress for my birthday. We currently have a VERY expensive Prana foam mattress and it's hot as hell. Plus we have no air conditioning. Wouldn't gel be hot also?

Fucking hell. I'd hate that. Maybe so...

you can be the king of your own castle again

I hate that commercial

I didn't even know gel was a thing. I have a wool mattress that has a latex core which I love. It's not 'cooling' per se, but definitely not hot in summer. (I have a real aversion to synthetic stuff in my bed.) However, I'm beginning to suspect it's not great for my back.

If the heat thing is related to hot flashes etc, have you tried magnesium? I started taking it at the beginning of the year, and it's really helped. Also makes me less stabby, which is a bonus. (Well, a bonus for everyone else.)
