The authors of a study published in the medical journal The Lancet that said taking hydroxychloroquine to treat coronavirus could be fatal retracted their findings Thursday after multiple reports questioned its data.

The database belonged to a small Illinois company called Surgisphere, which is owned by Dr. Sapan Desai, one of four co-authors of the study, and which has a science fiction writer and an adult content model on its small staff, who have little or no medical or science backgrounds.

The other three co-authors, including Dr. Mandeep R. Mehra, a professor at Harvard Medical School, retracted the article after their attempt to verify the data’s accuracy and authenticity were thwarted by Desai, who did not return requests for comment from The Post.

Yes, this happened. Disappointing. You don't expect this from the Lancet. Thankfully, other studies on hydroxychloroquine are underway. Crazy times.

Probably originally a deep state plan to kill more Americans and blame it on Trump.

you just start a thread on everything I start a thread on?

where are my royalties?

it was the lancet that removed the article about the study because 'some people have questioned its information'. that is not the same thing as it being incorrect, nor does it nullify the other studies completed showing it offered no help. while the fact-checking is ongoing, the article remains retracted.

do we know who has questioned the information/results of the cited study?

the lancet, being a respected, world-renown publication, is doing the right thing and attempting to fact-check after questions have been raised.

as to the veracity of the article, a lot may depend on exactly who the people/bodies raising the queries are and any underlying agendas.

"The three authors said Surgisphere, the company that provided the data, would not transfer the full dataset for an independent review and that they “can no longer vouch for the veracity of the primary data sources.”

The fourth author of the study, Dr. Sapan Desai, the CEO of Surgisphere, declined to comment on the retraction."

Correct! ;)

in instances where genuine doubt is raised over a study's methodology/assertions/results it is imperative that further verification happens. it would be incompetent and dangerous not to do so. facts really DO matter!

Trump was right about hydroxychloroquine from day one. Another failed propaganda attempt to take down the President.
