Hong Kong, like Taiwan, is a thorn in China's side. This morning's crackdowns will likely result in either public compliance with the new dictates and private dissent, or open clashes with first law enforcement and then the Chinese military.

I'm not really sure if the world is going to stay neutral if it comes to violent resistance.

I'm thinking they'll stop the public resistance because the world won't support them openly. With HK physically tearing itself apart, a major portion of world trade is impossible to be conducted.

Personally, I don't understand why someplace like Jakarta and the UAE aren't both trying to be the "new" HK. 2 centers of international business trade would mean better stability and bring prosperity to those host countries which are currently dependent upon a single market sector as the entire basis of their economies (oil and tourism).

An actual attack on Taiwan will be met with military resistance. China screwed up when they didn't attack during the WuHan flu crisis. They probably didn't because their bioweapon didn't work as effectively as they'd hoped.
