My laptop has shit itself. I'm in the middle of a double diploma for work.

It needs to be ready to go, Microsoft Office, Google Docs, PDF viewer etc.

Just the basic online stuff, but I'd like a fast laptop with nice buttons and good colour.

Any recommendations? Up to around US1000.

here's a pretty sweet laptop at costco. you won't need to upgrade anything and the performance is awesome. plus, it's a pretty blue :rose:

if you enjoy waiting around for shit to happen you can have mine for free. hell, i gave the fucker to my niece and she gave it back. now she doesn't have a computer at all and she really, really wants one. that's how you know it's a quality machine.

That's really sweet of you. I need a receipt, but thank you anyway.

Buy what suits but I’ve had a Lenovo x1 Carbon for the last decade and it’s been
outstanding.

Saw them! Lenovo is good, hey. I was looking at the Carbon gen 7 and the Yoga.

While they do seem excellent, just a bit over the budget.

I've purchased the acer. Better not be a fucking lemon! :D

Lenovo use to be IBM until it was sold.

Make sure you get as much memory as possible and I would get a solid state drive. Boots up quicker and is more stable.

Memory is what actually gives you the speed and capability to run several programs at once. Don't worry about the cpu as much as they're all pretty much the same now but I would stick with Intel. You won't be able to tell the difference between the chips whether it's an I5 or I7 or any other newer chipset.

MS office can be bought outright or you can do a subscription. Google Docs are free as that's all online.

Just make sure you get an anti-virus program There are several that are free that are really good.

Apple's will be a LOT more than PC's.

Hope that helps.

Buy a MacBook even if you have to take out a petty loan.

Reliability is worth a few shekels...

Even after adjusting for US $ that Acer is way over priced. You can get a really nice laptop for that money with even a little bit of research.

I had one of those for my last job, it was very good. I am using a Asus Vivobook now which is ok.

Apple been weird lately and offers decent value for money. The new Macbook Air ain't bad at all for 999.

Also, for those who are not paranoid the Huawei Matebook D14 is a really nice piece of kit at a budget.
