No problem, have everyone wear cloth masks and the air is magically pure.

On a serious note, the cabin air is HEPA filtered. You are less likely to get a virus than you are in an office building or grocery store. It is also not true that you are breathing just recirculated air. People would asphyxiate, were that true. At any given time the air you breathe is about 50% compressed, outside air and 50% recirculated.

The real problem that they have to overcome is that the outside air is not of sufficient pressure to support human life.
