Not wanting to crash the Hello from My Englishness Thread any more than I already have, I thought I'd start a US equivalent. People from all over welcome.

I live in the NYC area. Been working from home almost a month now. Just going out to get food in and laundry done and some walks where I can avoid people.

Miss getting together with friends and family.

On the bright side, I'm healthy, and as far as I know, still have my work, which I can do remotely from home for about 99 percent of it.

I've managed a fair amount of decluttering.

Work's been very busy so I can't say I'm bored.

Fantastic Idea, hopefully, it catches on. :rose:

I'll pop back in when I have some free time.

Glad you like it and welcome!

Sorry I got distracted lol

I do love the idea where we can all just chat in a thread. Makes it so much easier to get to know people.

I'm glad you will be one of the lucky ones to still have employment when this is all over.

I'm part owner of a hotel and so far only 3 staff members have been fired over the lockdown period and it's all been to do with stealing and not actual work.
I could actually do with employing more people right now. But everyone is so daunted by the task of even leaving the house that interviews and training would be near impossible šŸ˜’

I for one can't wait for the day when I can go buy a burger head to the park and flash some random older gent my panties.

What will normal be now when this ends?

Stay safe! :rose:

We need to make a date for this  cus I'm down for burgers and flashing ;) Although I might not be wearing any panties

I work for a restaurant (steakhouse) that decided to shut down during all of this. Hopefully, I'll have a job to go back to. Not that I really need (hubby makes enough to cover) it but getting away from the house and shit is nice, ya know?

Biggest issue right now is there are 9 people that live in my house, yes really, and privacy was already a problem and now? Fuuuuck that.

šŸ˜‚ sounds like a plan to me!
I don't flash with out panties any more last guy I did had a heart problem... That was nearly a really bad situation :(

I still can't give up the flashing.

Oh fuck.. Yeah that would suck. It sucks being isolated by myself enough and I've only got my own company to drive me insane.
I understand using a job to get out of the house more than a income aspect. If they don't reopen you could try volunteering I heard that a lot of charities are going to need extra help when this is all said and done.

Plus you get the self-satisfaction of doing something productive to :rose:

Good idea, I will have to look into that after I find out.

Me and my wife are both working.

I can work remotely in my role, and she’s a home care nurse getting a ton more hours.

Financially, we’re fine, for now.

It’s just the lack of ā€œalone timeā€, the fact our daughter can’t go to family for a weekend, or worse, she can’t be a normal kid, school, sports, etc.

We’re not social butterflies, but we do like burgers or pizza and a beer or wine. Going to a concert, a sporting event, etc.

The whole thing is really pissing us off, because not to get too political, neither one of us believes this is all about a virus.

I've also made "friends" with a few hoteliers around the world and most are desperate for workers to. It seems to be a common theme that most need employees now more than ever.
Half the staff they do have are to scared to go to work and would rather lose their jobs. Which I can understand in a way.

Ahh yes it's got to be extra hard for people with kids and even for the kids themselves.

Kinda puts in perspective of how lucky we all were before hand.

I think the virus itself is bad enough (I've experienced it first hand) but the political nonsense that is going along with it really makes you wonder what's going on behind the scene.

It's been very busy at work, 9-10 hour days. We're not essential, but we are able to work remotely. Grateful to still have a job.

Looking forward to the weekend.

I like the idea of flashing & burgers!

I wonder about that too. If it's going to go back to normal or if it will be a new normal, as with 9/11 (air travel, NYC skyline)

I believe the aftermath of Covid will be around for a long time. That when lockdown/isolation are lifted that people will still be hesitant to travel and come in close physical contact even with friends and loved ones.

Anti social will be the new norm

Yes, I think it may change things. I'm hoping some of it will be positive, like better wages and benefits for essential workers like grocery store employees and delivery people.

And companies encouraging sick employees to stay home. Or at least work remotely, if they feel up to working. I hate when people come in sick and spread their germs, but in a lot of places, they don't want to risk their pay, so I get it. Plus I'd rather see them get the rest they need to recover.

Good luck to her and thank you to her and your family for all she does.

I'm not a social butterfly either, but I miss going to nearby restaurants with friends or even on my own to people watch.

Thank you. We appreciate that. She appreciates it.

We love going to the local ā€œsports barā€ just for something simple. We really don’t have friends our age that we would hang out with. Most of my work colleagues are in other locations.

We’re both at the point where we just want a week off on some beach somewhere.

Sorry for the delay, we got slammed at work (working from home).

I get that. I had to cancel two trips. I'm going to see how things are panning out this summer. Might do a fall trip to a beach within a couple of hours drive. It's a little cold to go into the water (Northeast) that time of year, but I could drive it and there was an AirBnb I stayed at last year that is clean and well kept. And there are breweries and restaurants if those reopen.

If things become normal again (I refuse to use ā€œnew normalā€), the water stays pretty warm down here into late October. Air temp isn’t always cooperative though. Can have all four seasons within 6 hours in North Carolina in October. Rentals can be pretty cheap by that time of year too.

We had reschedule our anniversary trip from mid-April to mid-June. Hopefully things in Missouri will be open by then, otherwise our trip will have to be rescheduled Again.

That sounds like a nice trip.

Hope you can make it.

I wanted to go the Mermaid Parade for the first time this year in Coney Island. It's normally next month. Maybe I'll have a parade in my apartment :)

Nice!

I have some Dogfish Head Seaquench for when I do dinner on the grill outside.

That sounds good! What do you like to grill?

When it comes to wine, lately I've been on a Gruner Veltliner kick, so that is tonight's beverage of choice.

We grill just about anything and everything. Steaks, chicken, burgers, ribs, pork chops, Italian sausages.

I’ll even grill bacon wrapped shrimp and asparagus.

As for wines, I’m a dry red fan, Cabernets, Merlot, Syrah for starters. Wife is totally opposite. She likes sweeter wines, favorites being the North Carolina scuppernong grapes. She also loves Riesling and Viognier.

This afternoon, we crossed the state line and were able to eat outside for our daughter’s birthday. Burger and beer never tasted so good! It was chilly, so I had a porter from a South Carolina brewery that isn’t available here. Really good!
