I submitted my story and just got a message saying the Moderator has rejected my story and I was wondering why this is.

Other sites have their rules and Laurel the site owner has hers. Copyrights are something she tries to protect.

Read the fan fiction rules here carefully. They are somewhat odd. Fanfiction and stories about celebrities are allowed, up to a certain point, but some things are not allowed.

As noted, we have to play by site rules.

You could always create a character, one modelled after a real personality, but not identified with them.

That's a good idea. Live up to the promise of your account name and create your own characters doing things in your worlds, not somebody else's. So much more satisfying, surely, to be able to say, "This is all my own work."

Drop a note to the administrators. I had a story get rejected and the notice said that snuff was not allowed. I reread the story three times and though a camera was involved, it was not used for recording sex acts and no one died in the story.

There have been rumors and back alley whispers that the admins use some form of word search AI to screen the stories, just to handle the workload and occasionally you trip the alarms.

I put a note in the admin's box and resubmitted it and the second time it was accepted without changing a word.

Good general advice, but if it was mind control of copyrighted characters the rejection probably wasn't accidental. The combination of "celeb/fanfic" and "nonconsensual" seems to be off limits these days.

The copyright angle has been covered. I've written stories about superheroes where you could read between the lines and realize that it was either Supergirl or Power Girl, whichever is your preference. I have two up that are clearly about Wonder Woman but you won't find those names in proximity in those stories, no matter how hard you look.

The issue with commercial characters isn't with copyright; it's with trademark. That doesn't make it any easier legally or ethically to portray these characters doing something that isn't within their commercially established character.
