*BREAKING* Vaccine news

Worth a shot, but there could be a tipping point beyond which nothing works. They'd be aware if that possibility and factor it in for who gets it.

Didn't you hear?
Scientists are using leftists now, instead of white mice for lab experiments and testing.
They don't get attached to 'em and feel empathy for the leftists, like the do the fuzzy little mice.

Not a medical professional here, but aren't vaccines a preventative and not a cure?

What?

It's not out yet, but it's being fast tracked. I think that Trump should order the FDA to approve it for use on patients who are otherwise terminal with no hope of recovery from their CV infection. We'd know within days if it works or not and/or what tweeks it needs.

That's not how vaccines work. You'd just be giving someone with Covid-19 ... more Covid-19.

I don't think there's any substitute for doing this the "long way." We had a vaccine for the H1N1 flu strain within about 4 months, but I assume they were able to build on the existing flu vaccines for that. This is an entirely new disease.

Had to look this up myself, but apparently there is such a thing as therapeutic vaccination, used on patients who are already infected. And used typically in cases where the patient's own immune system is compromised or otherwise cannot fight the infection on its own.

No idea if this coronavirus vaccine is suitable for use as a therapeutic vaccine.

To add on top, it seems to take a week or two to build up in one's system if you go off the timing seen in the mice used in the study which seems to mean it might not help someone who is in dire straights quick enough.

Still it is great to see potential progress. Currently there are 15 such positive research case's on going of which I read about. With luck one may hit the "jackpot"!!

This is not the first or only vaccine being tested.

People in China and Europe also think they might have a vaccine.

But - any new vaccine needs to be tested and evaluated. IF it works - then it has to be made in massive quantities and the facilities to do that are inadequate anywhere.

Even then it is only of use to people who have not already had Covid-19.

Those that have had it might have developed some immunity but for how long, and to what extent of exposure? We don't know yet. The immunity might be for weeks, months or years. We just don't know.

This is the key. The greatest scientists in the world are all at work on just this one thing. It seems inevitable one of them will hit on an answer. I remember the push for treatments/a vaccine for AIDS, but that wasn't a preoccupation on this level.

I was just watching 60 minutes, apparently several countries already produced several vaccines, and they are now carrying out comprehensive trials.

Yeepee! I thought, but then they added that it will still take more than a year until mass production.

Yes a lot of lab activity, Still, even if there is one vaccine that works in the lab, trials will still need to occur. Least you forget what happened back in 1976...and that was built using a base for a known vaccine...

I don't have TV, but I only know of two vaccine trials one in Australia, and I forget where is the other. Are there now more?

That is not how vaccines usually work

Philadelphia medical scientists may have found a vaccine.

Vaccines typically are only useful for giving people an immunity before they have become infected. Not like an antibiotic that kills bacteria after a bacterial infection. There are antiviral drugs that could be developed to attack an existing viral infection but I doubt this vaccine will help those that are already dying. But it is a nice breakthrough. Still needs lots of testing.

Saw it. What’s your point?

You agreed with the other post, that vaccines are for prevention not a cure.

While that may be generally true, post #9 says it's not true all the time.

Research it. Otherwise, you don't know.

That was my thought.

This one involves proteins that trigger on antibody response. I don't know if that changes anything or not.

It's on youtube too. I highly recommend checking it out, it has a few COVID-related investigatives pieces with stuff not covered by other sites,
AND with minimum politicised bullshit.

True, I think that I was mixing in my head several sources.

If I understood? correctly??

As far as the West is concerned,
there's an Australian one that is the most thorough/comprehensive, and a US one which skipped animal testing. More countries will follow shortly,

But apparently? South Korea and China started their own trials too on march 18/24.
