Hello All:

A few weeks ago I posted a story, the first installment in a multi-part submission. The title of the first story was "Idle Hands."

Yesterday I tried to post part two. The title of that story is "The Devil's Playthings." This submission was rejected with the following note:

"For stories to be grouped together, they need to have same story titles with numbered chapters."

Does this mean that all subsequent submissions for this series have to have the title of "Idle Hands, part XXX?" Would like some guidance, please.

OK. So if I resubmit with "Idle Hands," Chapter Two" i should be in good shape?

Okay. Thanks to both of you. It's been a long time since I've put up a multi-part story, and that rule must have slipped my mind. I appreciate the help.

Not really... the stories will be grouped alphabetically.

The second story should be 'Idle Hands Ch. 02' unless you will have over 99 chapters then you need to pad with two zeros.

Yes, it was good to point out the form was to use "Ch." rather than "Chapter."

But, no, I don't think so on the chapters over 99. I think the just go on to 100, 101, and 102. The reason to put the zero in front of chapters 1 through 9 is to keep them in order. Without the zero, they'd stack up 1, 11 to 19, 2, 21 to 29, 3, 31 to 39, and so on. That loses its effect when you get into the hundreds.

Not so sure about that. Chaptering, from what I can figure out, is done with an alpha sort, so without the leading zeros you could end up with 1, 10, 11, 100, 101, 102, 103... 110, 111... something horrible like that.

I just checked the only 99+ story cycle I know of:

Tefler starts with 001.

Yes, I see that, but that supports my reasoning for putting a 0 in front of chapters 1 through 9 but not needing to do anything after that (like not needing to start with 001).

At some point you'd have to ask, if there are over 99 chapters, how idle can those hands be?

It's still an issue in the hundreds. Under alpha-sort, "Ch. 101" will appear in between "Ch. 10" and "Ch. 11".
