What Are You Listening To Now? 6.0

To return the new release favor:

Marco Hietala, the bassist for Nightwish, just released a solo album.

I find it to be Nightwish before the steroids kick in. Very good.

I'll have to hunt that down. I have their first 3 albums.

C., have you heard it? Litfan, is the new one any good?

I just listened once and was busy whilst listening so I need to give it a better listen.

I like it. No surprises but well done solid heavy prog.

Historically, I get why Dream Theater has the fan base and relative importance in the annals of prog that they do. What I don't get is why Psychotic Waltz isn't right up there with them.

To me, PW is every bit as good as DT. For example, I think on first listen that The God-Shaped Void is better than DT 's latest, Distance Over Time.

Fate has not treated them kindly, but hey, they are still around and producing great music.

Many thanks for the comments.

I listened to it on YouTube last night, but like you ... was busy whilst listening so I need to give it a better listen. It sounded solid, but not special. But that's probably a premature opinion.

I'll play it again tonight, and will see how it settles on me.

New impressions: solid, normal heavy prog in the choruses and verses. However, in between these and in the intros and outros there is some very cool stuff going on that I like a lot. I also am enjoying the drumming quite a bit.

I'm standing by my statement that it is better than DT's Distance Over Time, which is really saying something as I think DoT is the best DT album post Portnoy.

Aisles

International Prog tonight first with Philippines' A Music Theory and now Aisles from Chile

Shooter Jennings featuring Marilyn Manson - Cat People.

Still making up my mind on the vocals but I like the rest of it, especially the fiddle. And the clip is better than the combination of "eight-bit" and "hot pink" might suggest.

Oof... usually I enjoy Manson covers, but the point definitely goes to Bowie on that one. Agreed with the fiddle though; for me that was the most enjoyable bit.
