Of course he could end up splitting the vote if he becomes the democratic nominee. In the general election, a lot of moderate dems and independents will not vote for an uber socialist that would destroy the economy/get rid of their private insurance that their unions negotiated for. They will either stay home or hold their nose as they vote for Trump.

I've said I'd vote for anyone who gets the Democratic nomination, but now I can see him being such an inflexible ideologue--and, yes, personally loony bins--that he'd pick someone like AOC for a running mate just for the purity of his message (and the naivete of his supporters), and I'd have to think twice about my vote. I'd probably have to put all of my effort into the House and Senate races.

The Russians aren't supporting both Trump and Sanders because they have any notion that Sanders could win a national election.
