Hibachi?

Oh yes! Gas is fine for quick and easy but charcoal is so much better when it comes to chicken and beef.
Thor is a grill man. I am sure he will pop in.

I fire roasted Poblanos on an old refrigerator shelf with my ant torch last fall, may be time to try making something out of extruded steel this year.

I often wish I would of kept the cast iron hibachi grill from 40-some years ago. I think it cost a whole $6 and was an awesome steak griller. It pretty much sucked for anything else. On my grill deck just outside the kitchen at home, I have a natural gas Weber and an AKORN charcoal rig. The Weber is great for a lot of things and the Akorn is awesome for low and slow as well as hot and fast. At the cabin, there's a cheap charcoal grill and an AKORN Jr. The little AKORN is the darling for most grilling, there. I should give the cheap grill away. Oh, there's also a SoloStove Yukon at the cabin, for hot dogs and marshmallows.

So here is what I've been thinking on as a device to cook and smoke meat.

A metal cylinder say 12" in diameter, 2' long and closed on one end except for a centered 1/4' hole. A cap to match for the other end with a D shaped handle also drilled through

2 rectangles of extruded steel 10x20" one boxed w/2 slots on the open side.
_ _ . the other w/corresponding tabs and a simple dumb pin to keep it closed on the other.

A very long center bar for the grill insert to ride on that prevents fubars when inspecting. The insert will be suspended in the center of the oven. Put hickory/mesquite/other wood in bottom of oven, close it up and hit it with the and torch.

If you say 12.75" in diameter, that material is readily available.....

So the kid brought this thing and left it at the shop where he's been cooking for the last month or so, must be 7 ft. tall and about 2.5 ft across, looks like something you would launch from a submarine. He calls it a wood pellet cooker or summat, must weigh a couple of hundred pounds. It sure makes some good food. :)

I have an old fuel drum that was converted to a smoker. Thing is big enough for a whole adult hog. I know, I've eaten one off it. Over the years, it has fallen into disrepair and it's weighing heavy on me. I need to get some metal work done to it and get it up and running again. It has huge sentimental value for me. I've been lugging it around for well over a decade, yet, it sits. I'd really like to get it mounted to an axle and be able to tow it wherever I'd like to use it, or, let its original owners son use it. After our last move, it's on my mind even more and may be the time to get that shit done.

I've seen setups like that and it's the only way to go. My Kid had a lot of them pass through his yard last summer. The best I ever saw had a self igniter. He's back today. Looks like rabbit again. Watching the smoke roll out the shop door as we shot a game brought visions of old Friday's.
