The Power Of Delete, Restrict, Respond, Ignore Or...?

Authors have had the power to delete comments they don't like. They have the ability to restrict comments to registered members, They have the power to respond or just ignore.

I've deleted only one. Responded to many. Ignored most unless favourable, but now!

I want to write a story about one of the (negative) comments. It's intended to be humorous. A poke at me that kind of reflects back on them (comment will be in the author's notes up front). Naturally it was an anon comment, although I have my suspicions as to who it is.

A little voice inside it telling me maybe it's not such a hot idea poking at an already sore spot on Lit. The other voice says fuck 'em, have at 'em.

It's not like I need MORE story ideas.

Thoughts?

What's funny to you falls flat on its face for the next guy. Satire is best served gently and with subtlety, sarcasm best served cold. Those with wit will get it, most won't. The great unwashed, who I imagine would be the target of your jibe, certainly won't. Prod the sleeping bear...

Please do not castigate ALL commenters who write as ANON.
We don't all write bad things

Sounds like they're already beating you up, can it get worse? If I ever ventured into LW again it would be with an account specifically set-up to do that — a sacrificial lamb sent into the battle to spread good news (Wait! that story has already been written  )

What he said. If you cast pearls before swine, you generally get nothing more than upset pigs with pearly indigestion.

I almost went with the "bear" analogy but then thought, why would I call a cockroach a bear?

No, the vast majority of Anons on my stories post decent comments. I have no problem with them. It's just when it's negative 99% of the time the word anon is attached.

No, it wasn't a case of getting beat up. It was a case of opening his mouth and trying to use less than subtle sarcasm on me. I thought I'd show him a true master at the craft :D

But I guess the real question is this: is writing an entire story (already half written) a good response. Or does it just harden the idiot and anyone like him.

I'm thinking of others here who seem to have enticed entire units of trolls slavering for their next story.

Good point! Gordo. maybe your intro comment should be from; A Fat Man With A Skinny Mind has commented on your story :D

You know, just a thought. Maybe if the site would change the comment user name from "anon" to "brain dead opinion" or "fuckwit", things might change. ;)

But you would be getting "entire units of trolls slavering" — isn't that the reason for poking them in the first place?

Me? I'm gonna use duel accounts (but in reality, I can barely muster up stories under this one )

Aside from the anons I wondered about the normal commenters.

Would seeing me take a story comment and writing a sarcastic response around it make THEM reluctant to comment in the future?

You're assuming they'd see see the story, then assuming they'd see themselves in it - which is, I'd have thought, a false premise, given that most fucktards have poor self awareness. Why would you bother, unless you want to be like them?

I have deleted comments whose abusive nature outweighed any conceivable merit. I have written at least one story mocking Anons. I have also written many stories inspired by Anons' comments. Mostly I just poke gentle fun at the more asinine commenters.

Only once have I felt downright annoyed by commenters, and that was when they ganged up on me and insisted I should read and learn from some certain Lit authors' works. Grr...

I wrote a story where the first comment I got was negative. I really started feeling horrible about the story. But then I began receiving favorable comments, not just posted, but also private. I left the negative comment for all to read. They had their own opinion. I would tend to agree with the action to not poke the sleeping bear analogy.

LOL! You made my day though when I read this...

Thanks. I agree!

I think it all comes down to whether you think you have a good story idea. If you do, go for it. But don't do it just to get a rise out of somebody. And you might want to consider writing it in a way that doesn't obviously telegraph to the commentator that it's in response to him.

I think it's going to be an excellent story idea somewhat on the same vein as Fido. That got me only one negative comment and dozens of "That was Hilarious" comments.

But the comment will lead right up front. It has to. It's entwined in the story.

Phrase of the day

Anyone remember Groucho's POTD?

"most fucktards have poor self awareness."

Ding, Ding, Ding...
