The UK government has pledged to “urgently” pursue the deportation of 25 Jamaican nationals after a last-minute court ruling prevented their removal and provoked Downing Street anger over the use of legal process in defence of civil rights.
The Home Office had planned to deport up to 50 Jamaican nationals, who had served prison sentences in the UK, on a single chartered flight on Tuesday morning. But it was met with opposition from MPs and campaigners who said many of those on board had been in Britain since childhood.
