THis is the place to post Senate news and commentary. What with the trial and all it's time to focus on the Senate in it's historic struggle between villanry and virtue. :)

GOP-controlled Senate approves Trump’s US-Mexico-Canada agreement to replace NAFTA

The US Senate on Thursday voted overwhelmingly to approve a new North American trade pact, handing President Donald Trump a second back-to-back trade win just as his impeachment trial was beginning in Washington.

After a brief debate, lawmakers voted 89-10 in favor of a bill allowing the US-Mexico-Canada agreement to take effect, overhauling trade relations among the three countries.

SO we call that Trump-TRA? YMCA, UMCMT????

Or maybe NAFTA II? Yeah why the hell not? Anyway, pretty bi-partizen, pragmatic acceptance that accepting a Trump Great, Big, Extraordinary reversal of the Clinton's NAFTA, makes Donnie happy and less manic. Despite it being just a few trims and clips, but it is Trump's.

Hooraw! Hooraw.!!!

Good Boy Donald, now go get Impeached!:D

Trump announces that he called it USMCA to be similar to YMCA, thus being easy to remember. Far better would be UMCA, since there’s no reason to give the United States of America two letters, when Mexico and Canada only get one each.

Lindsey Graham rages at Democrats and the impeachment process on Fox News — hours after taking an oath to be impartial

On Thursday, members of the U.S. Senate were sworn in by Chief Justice John Roberts for the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump, pledging under oath to act as impartial jurors and to consider all the evidence fairly.

But barely hours after taking that oath, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) went on Fox News to trash the whole process, and once again make clear that he had already picked a side.

“[Democrats] turned the trial into a complete circus. You’re allowed to do that but not with my vote,” said Graham. “I’m going to judge the case on the evidence assembled by the House. I’m not going to expand the record. This Parnas thing, I smell a rat. It is a complete, neverending desire to destroy everything Donald Trump. I took Mueller seriously. I don’t take Schiff, Nadler seriously. And I don’t take Chuck Schumer seriously when he says he’s looking for the truth. He’s looking to get back, to be the Majority Leader, nothing more.”

Was this before or after Lev tossed him under the bus?:D

We want Graham to keep ranting like this and playing the "solemn" oath breaker. And the news organizations, by all mean, should keep running his "he said this then; he says this now" vids frequently.

Indeed, especially in his home state 24/7! :)

GOP senators are questioning allegiance to Trump as impeachment becomes a reality: Morning Joe panel

According to members of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” panel, Donald Trump may see more defections by previously supportive Republican senators now that the impeachment of the president has become a reality and their conduct will be scrutinized by voters back home.

Speaking with columnist David Ignatius, host Joe Scarborough noted that multiple Republican senators — including several who are retiring — are going soft on defending the president and may be inclined to allowing multiple witnesses who could damage the president.

“I don’t know what the motivation for either Pat Roberts or Lamar Alexander would be to have at the end of their senate career a line about them blindly following an impeached president, and basically sacrificing their dignity and their integrity to suppress evidence, suppress the truth, when seven out of ten Americans want an open and fair trial, and want to hear from these new witnesses,” he added.

Crumbling like Blue Cheese! Revolting Republicans!:D:D

Is that guy Lindsey graham sane? Do you think he has any awareness of how crazy he appears. How arrogant, or crazy, do you have to be to totally disregard a sworn oath. Or is this simply the new normal in the "Idiocracy" that USA has become?

Keep those Then/Now videos of Graham statements on just about anything broadcasting. :D

He's from the state that gave us the Civil War, for all intents and purposes. So it's not so much that the USA is becoming an idiocracy as that his corner of the place always was one.

The hearing will go as predicted. Trump will be cleared. BUT R's will find out that Schiff is dangerous because he has the facts.

Pelosi will lose this particular battle (impeachment) but in the war over the next 10 months one 'R' Senator after another is going to get their words thrown back in their face. I suspect Pelosi's main objective for 2020 is to win the Senate.

Pelosi pretty much said the particular battle was lost in her speech in transmitting the articles of impeachment. She reminded folks that she dragged her feet about the whole impeachment issue. But in doing so, she acted when evidence was overwhelming and folks were begging for impeachment. That only continued while she dragged her feet in turning the impeachment over to the Senate. Now the Republicans are faced with two damning choices: being dismissive just highlights that everyone can see a coverup, and Americans don't like coverup (except for the small group of those who crawled out from underneath the rock with Trump) and to have an actual trial just highlights the obvious guilt (with more strong evidence floating in every day that folks think Pelosi is losing this). Fact is the Republicans in Congress are in lot worse bind then then were on the day the impeachment was passed in the House.

So, I think losing this particular battle looks a whole lot like winning it, once you've accepted that a removal this time around (impeachment can come up again and again and again) isn't the goal--taking control and belling the clown are the goals while sending the opposition to the hospital with self-inflicted "my they were stupid" wounds.

Lev Parnas just implicated Lindsey Graham

(Guess who ran to FUX TV, to cry about it ?)

Lindsey Graham has said new impeachment evidence presented
by Lev Parnas this week was "no different than the old evidence,"
calling the indicted Rudy Giuliani associate "crooked as a snake."

The GOP senator for South Carolina told Fox News on Thursday
night that he smelled "a rat" and accused Parnas of "dripping out"
evidence to the House Intelligence Committee in the build-up to
the Senate impeachment trial.

His comments came two days after House Democrats released
a trove of documents provided by Parnas' attorney, including
text messages and photographs.

"This Parnas guy is facing indictment," the South Carolina senator
added. "He's been dripping out to the House Intel Committee batches
of information, crescendoing to the week we start the trial."

"I smell a rat here. The guy is crooked as a snake."

(bodysong comment- Did Trump write this especially for Lindsey Graham ?)

What exactly is the nature of Parnas implicating Graham? (The post above this doesn't do it. It's about Graham's response to Parnas mentioning him in the Maddow interview and Parnas's interviews in general.) In his interview, Parnas said he was supposed to arrange a trip to the States by Viktor Shokin to brief Graham on the Ukraine operation. That in itself doesn't implicate Graham in anything. That isn't evidence that Graham knew he was going to be briefed on anything--or that someone was going to try to do that. What's the documentation that has Graham directly linked to this by his own action? Maybe it's in the documentation. It isn't in the Parnas interview with Maddow as she provided on her program this week.

Fair point. I have to admit that when the impeachment process started I thought it was a big mistake by the D's but as time goes on and more evidence emerges, they are going to inflict a lot of damage, especially on electorally vulnerable Senators. Initially I thought that McConnel would ensure a very fast (dismissive) process but am much less sure of that now. Two things we should also not underestimate:-

1 Trump's capacity blow himself up.

2 Nancy Pelosi. ;) She scares me! R's should be more circumspect she's a dangerous enemy to have.

That's the same kinda 'progressive' thinking that supports the idea that voting to keep more of my shit is a vote against my best interest LOL :D

I expect that it will be a brief trial, since the Senators won’t be allowed to speak or use electronic devices until it’s over.

And after all the dust settles down, you'll still be bitching about President Trump throughout his second term.

‘Which Senator up this year most deserves to lose?’: Preet Bharara flooded with replies to provocative question

Former United States Attorney Preet Bharara asked his 1.2 million Twitter followers a provocative question on the eve of President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial.

With worries that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is presiding over a sham trial, many analysts have suggested that the Senate itself will be on trial.

“Which Senator up this year most deserves to lose?” Bharara, who was fired by Trump, asked.

There are a number of potentially vulnerable Republicans facing voters in 2020, including McConnell himself, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ), Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO), Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC).

All of them Virgina!:D

Sen. Mitch McConnell’s wife has gone to Switzerland with President Trump.

Let the shenanigans begin.

Lindsey Graham goes berserk at impeachment presser: ‘I’m not covering up anything, I’m exposing your hatred!’

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on Wednesday excoriated Democrats for continuing the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump.

“If I was the president, I wouldn’t cooperate with these guys at all,” Graham told reporters at a Senate press conference. “I wouldn’t give them the time of day! They’re on a crusade to destroy this man and they don’t care what they destroy in the process of trying to destroy Donald Trump.”

“To my Democratic colleagues, you can say what you want about me, but I’m covering up nothing!” he continued. “I’m exposing your hatred to the point that you would destroy the institution!”

Keep compiling those Lindsey Graham "Said then/says now" video clips for use in the 2020 election. He's up for reelection this time. Let him sink himself.
