Again and again and sadly again you read news article after news story about some poor person who has taken their life and quite often there is a back story of social media backlash or bullying, encouraging them to go off themselves or that they are fugly or have committed the cardinal sin of pissing off/upsetting their followers etc.
Interesting article calling for facebook and instagram to hand over data:
"The college’s demands come amid growing concern that young people are being harmed by material that, for example, encourages self-harm, suicide and eating disorders. They are included in a new position statement on technology use and the mental health of children and young people."
https://www.theguardian.com/media/2...for-social-media-data-to-protect-young-people
“Self-regulation is not working. It is time for government to step up and take decisive action to hold social media companies to account for escalating harmful content to vulnerable children and young people,” said Dubicka."
To have an account on faceboobs and instaflunk you have to be 13.
I personally think it should be older than that and if parents allow their offspring to use the sites then they are personally responsible for the fucked up content their child is probably going to see.
With faceshite having the age of 13 being ok to have a facecrap account are they not semi responsible for what the children are accessing on facepuke such as porn, violent live shootings, cyber bullying, hate crimes etc?
So who do you think should be responsible?
personal responsibility
parental responsibility
social media 'giants' responsibility
societal or community responsibility
government responsibility
Is a person at the age of 13 really mature enough to understand and have a fb account? Should zuckerberg be held responsible and allow access to the data or say 18 should be the new age of holding a fb account?
