He is under no obligation to even consider time-wasting show-votes in the Senate He has every right to make those decisions on any basis he deems important for the aims and advantages of the majority party including scheduling show votes to embarrass the other side and declining them when it would politically disadvantage his caucus members.

Right now Cocaine Mitch feels that his time is best spent reshaping the various circuit courts more to the liking of conservatives using the read rule where Harry Reid went nuclear and packed the courts with Obama judges.

He has openly admitted that although this trial is a foregone conclusion and that there is no chance at all that Trump will be removed from office that he hopes to force some votes over witnesses for no other reason than to attempt to diminish the election chances of certain Republican members. He's not doing it in search of Truth he's not doing it for any reason other than the idea that it might harm certain members of the opposition. Which is perfectly entitled to do.

The HOUSE impeaches. The SENATE trial of the articles of impeachment decides whether the articles of impeachment AS DRAWN UP BY THE HOUSE warrant removal from office, or not.

The Senate is not in a position to "cover up" anything. Everything the President is alleged to have done is contained in the articles of impeachment and any supporting documentation that the House sends over in support of THEIR impeachment.

If something is "covered up" at this point it is because the HOUSE failed to UNcover the necessary evidence of "treason, high crimes, or misdemeanos" that would warrant drawing up articles of impeachment in the first place.

Trump got impeached while obstructing justice by not seeing over requested documents and telling witnesses not to testify. You mean that evidence the house failed to uncover?
