To all those living in Australia not able to celebrate the new year due to being displaced or are fighting the fires. Hope the new year brings better tidings.

Even here in NZ In Christchurch we have had a hot day (28c) but have had this weird hazy light all day not clear at all its been like dusk all day

As someone who has lived through a natural disaster (earthquakes) my heart really goes out to the aussies

Thanks for your thoughts. My son is holding down a job, and fighting fires. He’s now on his 3 weeks holiday vacation and was just deployed to NSW, again, to fight them.

Feel sorry for him and all the other fireys like him. From all reports they don’t get much rest really and some employers aren’t very supportive of that either. Hope he gets a break soon.

Yup...smoke here not quite as bad as yesterday

Yeah it’s pretty bad over here... living between 2 fire grounds we cop the smacked pretty much every day... at one stage early in the fires ash was pretty bad too....

Drove home for holiday just before New Years and from Victorian border home there was smoke every where...
