The “Scientific World-view” Needs an Update

We live on an island surrounded by a sea of ignorance. As our island of knowledge grows, so does the shore of our ignorance.
— John Archibald Wheeler

The more you know, the more you know you don’t know.
— Mrs Haine, my 6th Grade teacher (1961)

It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.
— erroneously attributed to Mark Twain

The community of scientists has bequeathed to us a picture of the world that is fundamentally wrong. The picture so many of us carry in our minds is derived from 19th Century science. It is utterly inconsistent with quantum physics, and has been contradicted directly by a body of research on powers of the mind that has been marginalized by the mainstream. Somehow, the picture has survived and become ossified in some of the smartest minds on the planet.

The big-picture stories that our culture carries have consequences for the way we live our lives and the way we organize our communities. The ”scientific world-view“ is not only deeply at odds with science, it is also related to the ways our world is falling apart—the sense of powerlessness and hopelessness that we carry, and especially the sense of isolation and existential loneliness.

Happy New Year Reality Check!

Darwin is still taught as the core driver of biology/evolution. But the evidence keeps mounting the catastrophe is the prime driver. Life has been virtually eliminated from the face of the earth on multiple occasions. Massive die offs followed by an explosion of new species. Then some period of Darwin model evolution only to be followed by another massive die off.

Homo Sapiens have been around for at least 400,000 years. Yet aside from getting bigger (selective breeding on the females part, proof that there is an atavistic biological imperative at work) there is no real evidence of evolution. We sure as hell aren't any smarter. We haven't figured out for certain how the pyramids were built or how that Peruvian stone work was done. There are folks out there still trying to duplicate Damascus steel.

The outliers are still out there crying into the wilderness. Velikovsky met with derision and still does today. You bring up his name and the academics quickly point out what he got wrong. They refuse to discuss all that he got right.

A huge battle is gong on re. the Younger Dryas event. An argument poised to overturn all we know about pre-history. An argument that impacts archeology, geology, biology, and astrophysics.

When I first started University I entertained the notion of following a path in geology. So I went to the head of the dept. to have a chat. I brought up the theory of plate tectonics and was firmly told it was "bullshit." I concluded that I wasn't going to learn much in that field at that institution. Anyone that firmly invested in a "belief" that they're unwilling to discuss alternatives is a person to be avoided. And as I matured it became more and more apparent to me that their "investment" in those beliefs were generally directly tied to their incomes. Academic protectionism if you will.

when and where did you go to university?

(my bold)
All this evidence, both from the ocean floor and from the continental margins, made it clear around 1965 that continental drift was feasible and the theory of plate tectonics, which was defined in a series of papers between 1965 and 1967, was born, with all its extraordinary explanatory and predictive power. The theory revolutionized the Earth sciences, explaining a diverse range of geological phenomena and their implications in other studies such as paleogeography and paleobiology.

jeebus you're a dumb, full of shit motherfucker.

ok not really a motherfucker cuz you can't get it up. Just dumb and full of shit then.

An extremely interesting article, certainly a thought provoking piece. Now on to proving "STRING THEORY" lol! Rumor has it that all knowledge radiates throughout the universe and some of us have the biological receptors to capture bits and pieces, Tesla and Einstein comes to mind! Energy and Matter, but what's in between? I Often wondered where do we go when we understand gravity.

I think that is petty much as God said it was going to happen in these latter days.

Buckle up Buttercup the ride Ain't over YET!l

^^^Be gone, Satan! And take your self-fulfilling suicidal prophesies with thee.

Do you fear the end is near?

The end is only near if the major societal suicide cults have their way, specifically the radical Islamic suicide cults and the radical Christian suicide cults. Many of Trump's followers belong to the latter group, the ones leading America toward an anthropogenic apocalypse.

There is very little goddamned difference in effect between the religious nuts of the West and those of the East. Neither give a crap about life on Earth after they die. Hell, for that matter, neither give a crap about diverse life on Earth while they are living.

Both groups are the Great Satans.

We all know secularism is alive and well!

Seriously, though, the link is trash. Four paragraphs in, and the author was misunderstanding quantum theory, and conflating different senses of memory. Not worth your time. ;)

I didn't see it that way, not conflating but adding another dimension to quantum existence. The only theory that allows the ability to bypass physical laws and travel the universe is by the use of thought. Thought has no physical barriers including the universal speed limit. We cannot outpace the great expansion physically, even at the speed of light there is a point of no return. Maybe life exist parallel quantum physical properties and something else.
