Writing for every category challange? Anyone done it?

Heya!

So, I've always had it in the back of my mind that someday I would, as my own little challenge, eventually write at least one story for every category (my focus more on genres, so I'm personally excluding 'Text with Audio', 'Novels and Novellas', 'Non-English' 'Illustrated' and 'Chain Stories- though I do aim to play with some of these categories anyway- I have just excluded them from this personal challenge).

I just wondered if anyone out there has promised themselves a similar feat? And maybe even someone out there who has achieved it? Maybe this is already an official challenge that I wasn't aware of?

If you have thought about it, attempted it, or even done it... what are some things you have learned? What were your favorite genres to write? What was a surprising discovery you made along the way, perhaps a genre you never realised you enjoyed until you decided to write about it?

Anyway, I'm just very curious about it. I want to know if anyone is even remotely on the same page as me etc

Hopefully, this isn't a weird question, I'm really looking forward to anyone's thought or experiences on the matter- if there is anyone

That is largely what the Survivor contests were about, so people have tried. The Survivor contest hasn't been run in a while.

A friend and I came up with a ridiculous story that involved time travel and butts. It was essentially a retelling of The Iliad. We planned to release every chapter in a separate category, tailoring it to said category. Unfortunately he's not much of a writer - he writes well, but he doesn't sit down and make himself do it daily. It's just not that important to him.- and he happens to be a control freak. So he took control of the project, but never pushed forward with it.

Literotica will have to do without Butter Portal Iliad, unfortunately.

Wouldn't even consider it. There are a few categories here that I consider so distasteful I'd eliminate them if it were up to me.

I've never had any inclination to try ever category. I think that, basically, I'm just a selfish writer. I write what tickles my fancy and if there's no tickle I'll abandon the effort rather than slog through to the end. Also, I think I know my limits and there are some categories I don't think I'm skilled enough to pull off with any success.

There are some in which I have no interest, like Incest. Others I don't have the talent for (eg illustrations). Some I could write but prefer to keep my sanity (LW tops that list).

So I've hit 16 of the 32 non-poetry categories. It is what it is.

I've thought about doing this. I like the challenge of exploring a new category. I have no objections to any categories so that's not a problem. I expect to publish in many new categories in 2020.

I nearly did that in my sr71plt account without making a special effort to do so or participating in the survivor contest. I few, like illustrated stories, weren't covered, though.

Sounds like a fantastic idea though, writing a story and fitting every chapter into a different category! Maybe one day you could attempt it with another story that makes the cut- and if you do, I wanna read it!

I totally get that, as they say, just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. I think that's advice I should heed every once and a while. Good luck with everything

I have a loose challenge to myself to do it, between all three pen names.

Missing Celeb & Fanfic, but I have a story in progress for it. The snap and five years later return from Infinity War/Endgame is just rife for interesting stories when you think about it. Just the setting, and occasional mentions of MCU characters through news reports. ( "Blip Back" )

Letters and Transcripts I'm still trying to find a good idea for. Have a premise for Non-Con, but it's never fully congealed for me. Wrote an essay, but Laurel put the kibosh on it LOL ( "Darkside of the Fanbase" ) Haven't come up with another good idea for Reviews and Essays.

Text with audio is one I'm trying to work out something that's reasonable to be read aloud by a woman, because nobody wants to hear me. I've got a $120 sex toy store credit I won elsewhere in a contest that I can use to solicit a reader over there.

Novels and Novellas is one of the few remaining categories I have left elsewhere, and it has about the same general readership as here, so I'll kill the same category on two sites with one stone when I write that one. Already know what it will be, but just not ready to start yet. ( "Long Haul Widows' Toy" )

On the other site I'm missing Mind Control ( much stronger consent rules there, making that category difficult ) Trans ( separate from Crossdressers there ) Steampunk ( Major research needed ) Watersports ( In progress "Golden Snare" ) and aforementioned Novels & Novellas.

So far I've published stories in 8 categories: Incest, Exhibitionist & Voyeur, BDSM, Erotic Couplings, Sci Fi, Erotic Horror, Loving Wives, and Anal.

I have stories in the works in the following categories: Nonhuman, Nonconsent, Mind Control, Group Sex, Romance, Fetish, Mature, First Time, Celebrity and Fanfiction, Gay Male, and Interracial. I've also contacted an artist about collaborating on an Illustrated story. That's 13 more. Some of them are close to done; others have just been started.

I've thought about some articles I might publish in How To and Reviews & Essays, as well.

I'm open to the other genres, but have no interest in publishing to Novels, Non-Erotic, Audio, Letters, or Non-English.

If I were to finish and publish the stories in the 13 categories I've already started, I'd bring my category total to 21.

I'm going to try to take my total to at least 16 categories covered by the end of 2020. That would double my current list of categories covered.

Letters can offer an interesting opportunity I think. You might rethink that one. I have one that could have gone into that category — ironically it's entitled Love Letters. It was one of the first few I wrote quite some time ago. I doubt I even knew there was a category for something like that. It was set in a time past when travel overseas was by ship. It was a correspondence between two men separated by distance, loneliness and perhaps a fear of loss.

I could see you doing something that would fit in the category. Think of it as a tennis match of words back and forth between lovers...maybe he's off to the war...or maybe she had to leave for a time to care for her elderly mother...
