In a Christmas letter to "the extraordinary men and women of the United States military," President Donald Trump told U.S. service personnel on Friday that he had secured for them an "unprecedented" Christmas gift: another pay raise.

"Starting January 1, 2020, each service member will see their PAY INCREASE by 3.1 percent — the largest raise for our Military in more than 10 years," Trump wrote.

"May God bless you and your family this holiday season. May God bless our Military. And may God continue to bless the United States of America," Trump wrote.

If Trump says it's so, it must be correct.

Appearing on Snopes soon....

The Department of Defense is infamously renowned for the TRILLION$ of American taxpayer $$ it cannot account for and unarguably wastes (think of payoff pallets loaded with billion$ of cash, for only one example). Yet, this President just signed the largest DoD appropriation in WORLD history, some $738 billion, making it almost $2.5 TRILLION to the military since he's been in Office. In comparison, communist China, the 2nd biggest defense spender in the world, spent $175 billion for 2019.

TRUTH: the US spends hundreds of billions more on defense than THE REST OF THE WORLD COMBINED. The US is, also by far, the world's biggest, most profitable weapons dealer to the world.

If impeachment and trial were truly just, all Presidents and Congresscritters who approve this perpetually repugnant waste of taxpayer $$ would be removed from office.

Alas, once again the old axiom holds 100% true: citizens get the exact government they deserve.

Lol, stupid old repugs.

Your bigotry, greed, and racism supersedes any tiny bit of honor you dishonorable chickenshit buffoons possess. Most of us Americans are tired of your hypocrisy.

The buffalo doesn't give a half damn about any of you.

I think unprecedented is maybe just a bit of bullshit however I am with Republicans when it comes to the military, I want the biggest, baddest war machine on the planet and I'm willing to pay for it.
War is a fact of life and losing a war on home turf is absolutely devastating no matter if occupied or not. The wise course is to make sure that doesn't happen. Pay them well and give them the very best equipment.

First of all the US doesn't spend "hundreds of billions" more than the rest of the world combined. We constitute approx. 1/3 of the world total. I'm not going to argue that that isn't a hefty sum, but exaggeration on your part serves no purpose.

The billions unaccounted for were appropriated by congress and directed towards specific purposes. Calling a spade a spade, they were payoffs to "friendly" allies. I agree with you on that being seriously reeled in.

You call it waste, fine, your prerogative. Under your view every single penny we've spent on nuclear programs was a "waste." And given the fact that we never used the damn things there is some validity to that position. But the reality is that we never used them because the other parties understood what would happen if they used theirs. So in that respect the monies "wasted" were well spent when compared to the costs should we ever had to use them.

The whole point of having a strong military is in not having to use it. But there's always someone out there willing to test our will. Over the past two decades we've spent a great deal of time and resources fighting asymmetrical war. Insurgents if you will. While that was sapping our resources we fell behind in some critical technologies and weapons that will be needed to confront the Chinese. We find ourselves playing catch up in the ability to confront a major foe.

As far as the pay raise is concerned, do you believe that to be a waste as well?

I wish he'd make up his mind. When he announced the budget he touted it as the largest raise in a decade.
Now he's saying it's the largest in history.

Since there was a 3.4% increase in 2010 it would appear he's decided that lying about it is his final decision. Big surprise.

Though i suppose I shouldn't so easily say he's lying. It's just as likely he's too ignorant to know what "unprecedented" means.
