Unable to Edit Profile

Hello,

I've been unable to edit my profile for a while now. I am on a Pixelbook running the most current version of Chrome, in an incognito tab (doesn't work in normal Chrome window either), with my ad blocker paused (I trusted the whole forum site).

When I click the 'Edit Profile' link on the User CP, it asks for my current password and also forces me to fill out the email field even though I'm not changing that. Then it bounces me back to the original CP home page (list of subscribed threads).

Any help is much appreciated!

No one can. It’s not your tech or a glitch. It seem the Lit gods turned off the function and no matter how much people ask, refuse to turn it back on.

Ah, pity. Thanks for letting me know. Maybe a sacrifice will appease them...?

New member here

Hello there,

I just joined and was wondering the same thing. Took me some time to figure out that new members must post like 100 posts to be able to edit their profile.
So,,, post #1? Or this does not count?
So far its a struggle to figure things out on here. Someone seriously needs to redesign this whole thing and move on from 1990's.
Switch to an app or at least mobile friendly maybe? But for sure, need to fire and hire new user experience designers

You're new here, with idealistic expectations, aren't you? Folk need to realise Lit has a tiny back room, with one owner, Laurel, doing the content wrangling, and her partner Manu doing the tech stuff. And maybe a few more floating about the edges. It is what it is. Send a million bucks, or cope with it, like the rest of us do. It's fine, once you understand it's the words that matter, not the pretty colours :).

Don't blame the owners, Invision Power Board is glitchy software.

The forums are usually pretty stable, but sometimes messaging and profiles just develop a mind of their own.

I've never had any problem with Invision, and I've been using/coding for it for a very long time.

Anyway, the problem is actually updating the infrastructure for the website. Something went seriously haywire with the bridge between the profiles on the main site and the forum during one of those upgrades. They were linked, where changes made in one took affect in the other. After that upgrade, attempts to update your profile from the forum was causing serious issues. So, that ability was disabled.

It's never been explicitly stated, but the most likely thing is that they're not fixing it in the current version of the forum software because it's slated for the bin — which has been explicitly stated. It's most likely being fixed in the updated software, which is a completely different animal under the hood, and far more compatible with the updated infrastructure.

The forum is an alley on the edge of town, and it doesn't make any sense to fill the potholes in it when you're planning to completely repave it before long, and all the manpower is working on the main roads.

Don't blame the owners, Invision Power Board is glitchy software.

It’s been this way for over two years!

See above. 🥱

Any news?

Rather than start a repeat thread, I'll just boot this one back to the top.

When is profile functionality going to be restored? Not being able to update anything beyond my signature and photo is getting to be rather bothersome.

I'm the kind of person that would rather have no information listed at all, rather than have incorrect information posted.

I've tried PMing Manu about just erasing my bio on the forum in the past, but he never got back to me about it. Maybe it's hard work, maybe he forgot, I don't know. But it's incredibly outdated, and like you, I'd rather just have no information listed at all than it being inaccurate.

Read very closely. The owners shut off profile modification years ago. It's not up for debate. It's a fact. Get over it and stop making dumb threads to discuss known facts. 🙄

^So why the snarky attitude? I for one was unaware that profile modification was not allowed, because one would logically think it would be. And I'm sure I'm not alone.

It is unfortunate, as there are a couple things I now wish I could change in my profile, including my author's statement. My interests in writing about certain themes have changed, and I want to focus my stories on different dynamics than when I signed up- and I wish my profile could reflect that.

Also known as your signature

Well, it can't. Excuse the attitude. I just kinda get sick of repeating myself. The rest of the site is just ignoring you guys. Tell a friend!

You just said "It seem the Lit gods turned off the function", which sounds like your opinion or interpretation rather than a straight fact. Unless you can point to a post or a quote from Manu (or possibly Laurel), your view on the issue is just as valid as anyone else's.
