I'm sure the President knew exactly what he was saying and why. Because, on the one hand he praised the US military dog that was injured, but he uses 'dog' in a clearly pejorative fashion when describing how al-Baghdadi died.

Islam is notorious for containing many religious passages by Muhammad in which he says that dogs are dirty, evil, Satan in disguise and so on.

Yes, but I doubt trump wrote the words, I doubt his knowledge of Islam extends much further than "Muslim bad". Also, we know his writing skills are not at the level apparent in the speech.
But definitely a skilled speech writer somewhere in the west wing or in the pentagon.
