Why would the Bush Doctrine of the poorly named compassionate conservative* George Walker Bush be horrible policy, perfectly acceptable when that policy was continued under Obama, and now great policy now that Trump thinks it's bad policy?
*Compassion is a core principle of actual conservatism and completely absent in progressivism since in their view the individual is of no particular value rather only as it pertains to the benefit of the collective.
Compassion does not mean that you can fix broken and it also doesn't mean enabling bad behavior bad choices and bad culture.

Literally nothing that resulted in the outcome Obama immodestly took unearned credit for was developed under his time in office, much less his guidance. It was simply the culmination of the hard work of professionals who set all of that in motion by happenstance during the tenure of the previous administration who also did not provide any particular guidance to professionals in intelligence, doing their jobs. The primary difference between the two i administration's is that the former allowed the intelligence people the latitude to do what had to be done to achieve this outcome and the latter administration came into office castigating the intelligence services for the very actions that led to this outcome and fostering a very hostile environment to intelligence until this event occurred that enabled them to have something to count coup about when that administration's going to see this on foreign policy needed burnishing because of the flagging re-election chances.
The assassination of Bin Laden would have been just another Bill Clinton style hard pass on what special ops was prepared to do until intelligence forced Obama's hand by letting him know in no uncertain terms that if he did not green-light this raid that it would leak that he had left Bin Laden, once again, get away.
If the decision-making on the timing and execution of this raid have been left in the ditherer-in-chief's incapable hands, this would never have happened.
