*** Spoiler Alert! *** This thread will contain spoilers for my Hard Landing series.

So, Chapter 05 is up. I'm opening this thread for folks and fans of the band to come here and talk about it. And AMA. And yell at me for the ending of Chapter 05, if you need to. I won't be providing any hints or spoilers on Chapter 06 though. It should be coming in two to three weeks (I'm in grad school, so writing is slow.)

Also, I'll just put this here:

Stevie Ray, Little Wing, live

No, I don't think I want to yell at you ... yet. But I do have one or two questions. I am interested in the story's backstory. Are you a helicopter pilot? I'm not, by the way, but I did go to high school with Igor Sikorsky's grandson, so I was initially a bit dismayed by the heavy emphasis on Bell products. I got over it.

Also, shouldn't grad school actually speed up the writing? Grad school is nothing BUT writing!

I probably shouldn't nag, but I haven't been this excited about a series on LitE in a long time. I'll be so sad when it's finished and I can no longer anticipate the next chapter. How many more chapters do you think you have fighting to get outside of you? 25? 30?

Well, TBF, the UH-60 Blackhawk is made by Sikorsky
That’s what Jo flies. But honestly I knew I wanted a Bell-47 in that scene at the farm and Wikipedia led me to the rest.

Fun fact, I have never been in a helicopter, nor am I any kind of musician.

That’s the problem with grad school! I have too much OTHER writing to do!

Now you’ll want to yell at me, it’s looking like Chapter 6 will be the end of the series. It may split into 6 & 7, if I want to get something out sooner to avoid the pitchforks.

Has anyone heard of any good pitchfork sales?

I’ve completely loved the story, the characters, and the attention to detail. I’m not a beach person, but I really want to head out to all of the small towns you have mentioned just to listen to awesome music. I can’t wait for the next chapter. I know that the story is coming to an end, but I really hope that you rethink that. There is a lot of story left in these characters.

Not pissed, just disappointed

I did know that about the UH-60. It's made 15 miles from my house.

Fun fact: I have flown exactly once in a helicopter. It happened before my very first fixed wing flight. I was scheduled to fly to San Antonio for USAF basic training with a posse of other fresh recruits on a flight from JFK, but our aircraft had been grounded by weather in Dallas. So they bundled us onto a helicopter and flew us to Newark to board a different flight, which, ironically, got diverted by weather to Love Field in Dallas, where I spent my very first night in a hotel.

I'm not much of a yeller, so please excuse my inappropriate calmness in the face of your disappointing revelation regarding the number of remaining chapters. I would, however, ask you to consider dropping this grad school hobby of yours in order to free up time for more important writing. I bet your professors will never write as many obsequiously fawning reviews of your work as you can expect from me. It's just an idea. Think about it, ok?

Damn my iPad didn’t show me the last few words and I thought that was it. Phew.

I won’t yell because I have faith in you...

Thanks. I have a link in my sig block, but having a more explicit one is probably a good idea.

People won't always see your signature, because there's a control panel option to stop them from displaying when reading forum posts. Mostly used to get rid of obnoxiously large/graphics-heavy sigs, but unfortunately it also masks the ones with useful stuff.

So this happened.

I want everyone to know, I’m working on chapter Six. However Google Docs ate about twenty pages that I’d completed that I will now have to recreate. Needless to say, I’m upset and my motivation is low right now.

I still hope to have Chapter Six completed by mid October. I’m really sorry to leave people hanging, especially after dropping that cliffhanger on you friend.

Oh no! That's terrible.

I'm eagerly awaiting the chapter, but wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your work. Thanks and can't wait! (I'm checking every day, sometimes multiple times.)

Thank you for the encouragement! Chapter Six is with my editor. Once I get it back and revise I’ll post it, so it’ll go up maybe this weekend? Or early next week.

I’m so sorry for the delay. I’m working on Chapter Seven now.

I can’t wait to read the next chapter! This story had been one of my very favorites. I hope it comes out tomorrow as that would be the icing on the end of my week.

So I've got to say I love this story.
How much?
I joined this site today after having been a frequent visitor for years.
My sole purpose of joining was so I could list you as favourite author.
I have a hypothis
This story is too well written to be your first venture into fiction. You say you are a HP fan. I guess either on AO3 or FFN you have written fanfiction.
Am I right?

Thanks

Thank you. I appreciate that you signed up to comment.

I didn't know what AO3 or FFN were, had to Google. Hard Landing Chapter 01 is the first time I've ever attempted to write fiction, so I guess thanks for the compliment. I've been a reader on this site for years, and I had a story in my head. After reading Carey Thomas' writings and a few others, I was inspired to try my own. I guess it turned out okay. :)

Thank you for the feedback.

Wrexscar, stop talking about Harry Potter fan fiction. It is contrary to Lit policy, and could get this thread taken down. The link to another story site will be deleted by the Mod, if you don't delete it first.

You should probably familiarise yourself with the site content rules, which apply to the forums as well as stories :).

My preference

While I do enjoy consuming many different genres of sci-fi and fantasy media, when it comes to erotica or amateur literature, I don't really enjoy fan-fic or stuff that is derivative of other intellectual property. That doesn't mean I look down on those who do. Different strokes, etc... People should enjoy loving what they love. I just prefer reading original fiction myself.

So, Wrexscar, to obliquely answer your comment, no that wasn't me. And I have not frequented sites that specialize in fan-fic. It's just not my cup of tea.

I am a big comic book and Marvel movie fan-girl. I enjoyed the afore-mentioned young sorcerer movies when they were a thing. But they've been over for awhile, and they aren't foremost in my fandom these days.

On a different subject can I say I've had the set list playing for the last 2 days now.

Good music.

Can I tell you something? I love getting comments and feedback on my stories. But when people tell me they listen to The Set List? That brings me SO MUCH joy!

Jo’s rockin’ that thing out, just for you.

Chapter 5 Review:

I already had you rated at a 2 before I finished the author's notes; being a latecomer to your story made the first paragraph a punch to the uterus. I moved it up to 3 a little later as the banter between the band became interesting. You moved back to a shaky 4 with the breakup fight and makeup bitchiness. You briefly touched a 5 during the passage at the home farm. And then, you ... so and so that does not begin with a c, you actually got me to smile and a tear when the reunion concert opening act started.

Your writing was very good, a few minor editorial issues here and there, some dialogue errors. I now have to read the first 4.

thank you.
