That poor neighbor that feels at fault because if he had never called the police, she would be alive today. The system is broken.
People would like to say it was because she was black but the truth is the police are way to much on the shoot in these later days.
There is a good chance that they could not tell who or what was moving around in that house.
I'm glad the kid didn't get hurt... Now I don't know if there is an unwritten shoot first ask questions later policy around here but there are entirely to many people being shot by law enforcement that did not have to be!
I don't think the case is reflective of the system (well, the system could be broken too, but that's another topic).
"A neighbour said he called a non-emergency number after becoming worried in the early hours about an open door.
The clip shows officers circulating the perimeter of the residential property and spotting a figure at the window."
The scenario as described by the caller looked like a house break-in, even crime.
The officer seemed either anxious, or incompetent therefore trigger happy.
Unfortunately it happened but we need to wait until the facts are all in. Very well could be a rookie cop, lack of training, lack of experience. Let the investigation find out what happened. I can hear the drumbeat of riots now. It's going to turn into a racist thing all because people jump to conclusions.
Can you blame (some) US cops for being so trigger happy?
Everybody can easily procure a gun over there, the press vilified cops so they're quite hated. Your cops must be in constant fear for their lives.
But I'd be more harsh on the cop because it happened in the UK,
where (but for sporting rifles) handguns have been banned since 1996.
Although on the other hand, I keep hearing horror stories about increasing crime in the UK, it could be possible that they now have underground network access to guns too.

It's not "easy" to get a gun in the US. The tabloids and politicians try to SAY it is, but in reality, it isn't.
Secondly, my possessing a firearm doesn't automatically make me dangerous. I carry one every day and I've never had to shoot anyone yet. Nor have I ever threatened to shoot anyone.
Given that, why would you consider me a danger merely because I have a gun on me? Merely because you don't know that I've never done any wrongs with a gun? If that's the case why do you not treat everyone you see around you the same way?
It's the fact that you believe guns to be dangerous that's the problem here, not me or my guns. The reason for this is that your exposure to guns is probably limited to news feeds and movies. Neither of which is the best source for information on gun safety or the proper use of firearms. Good for fear mongering, not so good for clear headed thinking.
As for the cop, he's going to be prosecuted and go to jail.
Absent a clear and present danger to his safety, he had absolutely no authority to shoot at an unidentified target. His job to to investigate and arrest criminals. If during the course of that process he takes a hit, well he volunteered for that risk when he signed on. If it's too much risk, he should quit and seek employment in another unrelated field of endeavor.
Police are people too.
People are fallible.
We make mistakes.
Seriously?
I post a link to a story about a young woman being killed by a cop who fucked up... and half the responses are that black people kill each other all the time, and black people will probably loot now.
Is that really your first reaction?!
That's really not how grief works.I doubt he answered that call thinking, "I'm going to kill a young mother tonight." There will be an investigation, and in the interest of public safety the officer's life will be destroyed regardless of facts of the event. Lawsuits for wrongful death will ensue, millions will be awarded. Lawyers will line their pockets and recipients, caught up in the euphoria of what to do with the new found windfall, will improve their lives and the poor victim will become a diminishing memory.

Very well have could have been a veteran cop who
has seen all the best that humanity offers when
it comes to poverty...

It happed in Texas. And, yes, we can blame our police for being trigger happy.
