Book Banners .... Extreme Righties at it again.

Yes but their reason was that the book contains actual spells that could conjure up evil spirits.

Ffs. What morons.

It is what they believe. Just like you believe the things you believe.

There is no right or wrong in that. Only belief.

Oh, because the left never censors anything. Right.

Censorship arises for all sorts of reasons all over the world all the time and is always tyrannical. However curation of children's literature in a private forum is not that. It is perfectly justifiable, even practically and morally necessary to maintain a child's innocence and prevent their exposure to anything which might harm them, allowing them to grow up naturally.

I'd say Harry Potter doesn't threaten that, but they might, and as parents it's their prerogative, not the state's, to decide how best to raise their kids. Can they still buy the book in any bookshop in the country? Yes.= Not censorship.

(Moreover interfering in citizens practicing their religion peacefully is against your constitution.)

So, someone should be investigating use of actual spells in Catholic schools then.

Quoted for future use, in the following scenarios:

*For illustrsting the "reality, truth, and facts be dammed" dumbfuckery of this mode of thinking

*For use the next time dipshit here ever trolls anyone for disagreeing with him.

And yet, a fantasy book talking about a person being created from mud, a talking snake, a bush on fire which talks, a man who gives his daughter up to be raped, which glorifies the extermination of entire towns because of their beliefs, not to mention a woman having premarital sex whose offspring is later murdered to clean up someone else's mess, is perfectly acceptable to be read.

I don't understand why they believe their make pretend stories, and no one else's, either.

Not the leaders, for them it is a money and power racket and I understand that very well, but the rank and file. You'd think if they were going to swallow that horse shit at least they'd shop around.

I once yelled "Wingardum Leviosa" trying to lift a toothbrush off the sink. And low and behold, as soon as I uttered those words, this shadowy black figure appeared behind me, and I felt this cold, deathly touch. I turned around looked in the mirror there were three bloody scratch marks on my back. Theres been weird freaky $%^ in my house ever since.

How about we shoot the books then everyone will be happy!

Why "book banning? What's so revolutionary about it?
It's just a literary book.

It's good-iish at best in terms of style and implicit message.
It's just another "You are special, you have that special gene" or "teenagers save the world" modern YA book.

Indeed, it does stimulate imagination and draws towards reading the dolts who would never open a book otherwise.
But there are plenty books out there that do that, so no loss.

The more I think about it the funnier this thread gets. Until the last election the Catholics fairly reliably voted Democrat. "Extreme Righties" indeed. *chuckle*

Most YA (dystopian) modern that I read have the same recipe: "the protagonist is special", Teenagers save the world". "

Maze runner, Divergent, Harry Potter, The Giver.
I enjoyed reading them heaps at my age, they're fantastically written.

Will they encourage healthy self-esteem and attract kids towards opening books, which they rarely do in this digital age?
Or will they increase the rampant epidemy of selfies and narcissism?

No, it's because it might be well written and captivating, but it's basically stupid.
It's main merit is that it attracts dolts who don't open books.

Kids at Catholic schools are quite accomplished.

It's a private school. Will you ever learn to mind you're own fucking business?

As soon as Catholics mind their own fucking business instead of trying to force their beliefs down everyone's throats. Not to mention, they have bigger problems than worrying about a young adult's book corrupting the youth.

I’m Catholic from infant until now. I’m not sure what school this is in the article, but I can tell you that the Church isn’t banning Harry Potter. That’s just foolish BS.
I also dont understand the hostility here from some posters. Most of us choose to believe in something bigger than ourselves as is our right as is the right of all Americans to choose their set of beliefs or not. I dont remember, nor have I ever heard a Priest say “to go out and convert”. That doesn’t happen. I may TRY to live as an example, but like all humans I fail. I have made a ton of mistakes Most of us (I say most because saying ALL Catholics is stupid, I don’t know ALL Catholics) dont judge others. We try to live our lives as best we can, raise our family’s the best we know how. And try not to make too many mistakes.
The Church like ALL religions has its issues. You know why? Because it’s made up of humans and humans fail all the time

But no Harry Potter isnt banned by the church.

IF you paid for education at a private school, you might want to get a refund, as they apparently didn't teach grammar there.

But you have a point, it is a private school so they ought to have some leeway as to which books they teach there. But whether they have a right to ban certain books or not isn't really the issue- they do have a right being a private school- but their REASON for doing it is ridiculous; whether they have a right to do so or not.
