I don't know what compelled me to do this, but something in me wanted to.

As the thread title goes, this is me.
All of me.
No edits (well, a crop and resize and brightened), no fancy angles, no filters.
Just me.
Oddly, even my face, which I typically avoid showing.
If you met me, this is what you'd get (although clothed).
I am 5 foot 8, somewhere between 165 and 170 lbs typically.
Currently 37.
Single in the truest sense.
No friends offline.
A shit job.
Don't have my life together.
Don't have a car.
No place of my own.
Never married, no kids (although I am good with them).
Haven't had sex in nearly a decade.
Haven't remotely had a gf in longer.
A wannabe voice actor, so really that just means I can do voices.
No real talents.
Spend way too much time on the computer.
Enough time that you'd think I was good at computers, but probably average or maybe slightly above at best.
Don't drink, don't smoke, don't do drugs.
I do chocolate.
A collector of swords (currently 11, hoping to increase that).
I'm a nerd. Into cartoons, anime, games (both video and board).
Also enjoy collecting musical instruments I cannot play as I've never had any talent for music.
Native to New Jersey, currently in Florida.
Spend all my time at home in pj pants and a t-shirt.
If I go out in public, swap the pj pants for jeans and sneakers.
I clean up nicely, but don't like to dress up.
Can probably be a bit silly, yet other times quiet, yet other times jaded.
Probably low self esteem.
Always been an artist in my head, but not much of one in practice.
Just existing most the time.

So, yeah... this is me.

Hey Ecto John, I saw your post earlier, about not having any real life friends and I meant to reply. So I'll reply to this instead. Ive always respected you around the threads, and can honestly say that if we loved I'm the same area I'd see is as RL friends.

This describes me too. I collect swords (though I don't have as many).and I play games of both the board and video game variety. I also play dungeons and dragons, usually I'm the DM. If you use steam (and I imagine you do) you should add me. I'm currently mostly.olahing Grim Dawn when I game.

Anyway, just keep on being the kind, caring guy that you are. World needs it.

What kind of swords do you have?
It is an expensive hobby if you want good ones. :D
Not easy to build a huge amount of them, and then you have to have places to put them. :p

I've actually never played Dungeons & Dragons before.
Closest thing I ever did was Battletech as a kid, but I don't think we played the detailed rules.

I do have Steam, although right now I've been mostly playing VR games.
Just recently got a Vive and I've been doing nothing but game wise. :D

Thanks for the kind words.

The swords I have, I got when I was young and just wanted any swords I could get :p Soz they are nothing special. When I acquire more, I'll be more particular.

Message me if you want my steam at all, any time man

As someone who uses angles and filters a lot, I truly admire your honesty and candidness in the post.

Regardless of reasons why you decided to start the thread, good for you! People like real and you are being just that.

Good luck in whatever you do and best wishes for the future.

I was never good at angles anyway.
Nobody is going to confuse me for a photographer. :D

Sometimes it doesn't hurt to be real.

Thanks for the luck.

You sounds a lot
Like many of my “real life” friends...
Except the Florida bit.

What are your thoughts on table top/role playing games ala Pathfinder or D&D?

Never tried either of them.
Don't really know Pathfinder (will have to Google it), but I'd certainly give D&D a try if ever invited to play.

I recommend listening to a podcast like Critical Role to see what D&D is about. It is always about spending time with friends storytelling together (and eating yummy snacks) whenever I play.

Hi John I'm Jim aka jimbo.* Shaking your hand* your honesty is refreshing ..stay safe with the storm ..if you survive hit me up I might send chocolates 😅

Pathfinder is just d&d 3.5 with more rules and depth. Realistically.

I tried listening to critical role, just couldn't get into it. But I've been playing for 30 years.. I'd rather just play vs listening to someone else play.

*shakes hands*
Howdy, Jim.
Glad you enjoyed my honesty.

I should survive this hurricane well enough as it's currently tracked enough to the south of me that the impact I'll get is lessened.
I'm just south of Daytona Beach.
Then again, who knows.
The weather guys seem more baffled with this storm's future track than any other storm I can recall.
I know hurricanes are especially hard to figure the future track of, but they seem more unsure of themselves than usual.

Well, I've no frame of reference for D&D version 3.5. I know there's several different versions of the D&D rules, but I couldn't even tell you how many revisions it's had.
It did seem D&D like just from the pictures on the cover of the rules.
Unfortunately, the only RPGs I've played have been video games.
Closest thing I've done is Battletech, and that's not exactly D&D levels of roleplay.

I could also see myself getting into Warhammer 40k, or similar things.
It's hard to really gain an interest in such games without knowing people to play.
Not that I really need a new hobby to sink money into, but it wouldn't be bad to try. :D

Warhammer is one you should watch being played first, I think. It is mega bucks, but some people find it’s totally worth it. It’s been my experience that the best place to find out more about these types of hobbies are local gaming/comics/hobby/trading card type store(s). They would know where to point you for warhammer tournaments (or just the local battle scene if there is one).

The good ol' local gaming shop... never seem to live around one. :p
Well, not entirely true.
There was one that moved into a location near me before I left Jersey.

The only place I could realistically watch such things is on YouTube.
Then again, I'm not about to go get into it any time soon.
My current VR addiction sucks up my free time. :D

John, so it looks like Dorian is coming in like a delorian and is going to miss y'all.. So no chocolates for you...

Coming in like a DeLorean?
Don't know what you mean by that, but at the speed it's going, it would be lucky to come in like a VW Bus.

Or, since it's oddly strong despite moving at walking speeds, it's like an Abrams Tank using a VW bus engine. :D

Thank you so much for being open and honest!

For some of us it's hard to be that transparent.
Would make others I'll if I was that transparent.

I do hope you are safe from the hurricane.

💙

Yeah, it's not easy, and a bit of that felt depressing to write.
Just felt like I had to put me out there that day.
Partly for exhibitionism, and partly because of... well, can't quite figure
how to put it into words.
Maybe it's wanting to be noticed and liked, but still keep expectations very low.
Usually when you tell someone about you, you tell people only positives.
I'm the opposite end of perfect, but hopefully good enough.

I should be safe. I'm on the east side, but so far it seems we'll just get skirted.
Things might get messy, but not expecting catastrophe.
It'll be a slightly weaker hurricane by the time it moves up the coast to me.

Nice thread!

Thanks! :)

Great thread, I hope you’ll keep it going - I find it enormously cathartic to be honest on lit... within safe-ish boundaries but I think you may get a lot out of writing how you feel about some of what you’ve shared...

It can really help you work through things in your own head,

Thank you, and I'll try.
The picture was just intended to be a one time thing, just hoping someone enjoyed the exhibition.

lol, It was a bit cathartic, but I honestly has to Google "cathartic" to know.
I think everything I typed was safe.
The face is a bit sketchy, which is why I never show it, but I doubt anyone I know would be here.

It was nice to make this thread and just get it off my chest, even if I'm not entirely sure why I needed to.
It don't hurt to just put myself out there sometimes.
