The official Authors' Hangout Summer Lovin' 2019 Support Thread

I just dropped my second story for the contest and another one as a confusion factor. It is the fourth chapter of a story I haven't posted to in three years. I forgot i had it finished. Duh!

Well mine’s finally up, kinda nervous cause I don’t know which way it’ll go. I put some stuff that is a little raw in it so it would be a bit on the painful side if the reaction is negative. But also kind of excited to see what the reaction is.

Still even if it is negative at least I have my sex demon story coming up for Halloween. No one can dare speak ill on the sanctity of sex demons, right?

Seventh entry just submitted. That story was started in 2002 and nearly completed in 2006.

I bailed on my previous story submission idea. It was going to be at least 35,000 words and I realized I wasn't going to get it done.

I started a new story today. I'm stoked about this one and I think I'll get it in within a week, plenty of time before the end of the contest.

Well mines getting pretty hammered. From my counts got 2 1 stars, 1 3 star and 1 5 star. I’m still proud of it. I read a page of it last night and enjoyed it pretty well. I kinda figured that a story that was quasi about a man’s inability to lose himself completely in pleasure would find its fair share of detractors here. Hopefully they don’t keep other people from reading it.

I'm not one of those who hits refresh every three or four seconds to track votes. To me, that leaches all the fun out of posting.

Your work is getting read and enjoyed. Sit back and let yourself just enjoy that. And, if all else fails... wait for the sweeps!

Good advice. It's so much fun watching all the trollish sludge being swept away into the gutters where is belongs.

Happens to us all, Bebe. Happens to us all. One of the joys of the competitions. Once your skin gets thick enough and you’ve been around a while you develop a natural immunity.

"Mom! Simon's doing it again!" Janey looked so very, very sad (but as always, adorable).

EB looked crestfallen on behalf of Simon's sister. "Mate, is there anything we can do to help? This is breaking my heart."

That's typical trolling. Hang in there, it's far too early to tell - don't consign your story to oblivion just yet.

This, incidentally, is a down-side of contests - I get the feeling contest stories get more negative attention, just because they're in a list and writers are placing a tad more importance on them. This is just gut feeling, mind, comparing the performance of non-contest material.

No! It's good this time. Really. I'm really going to get this one done. And the one for Halloween already is almost done.

Honest.

I swear on my penguins' feathers.

What's Janey wearing, by the way?

As I recall from last time, a little bikini, coz wasn't she and your mom down at the beach? Your mom all naked and magnificent whilst you frolicked in the tiny waves? That's my recollection, anyway. Or was that Suzie? No matter, sand to be brushed off, regardless :).

So I'm to be disposed off still, come Halloween? I see. You'll keep, Mister Doom.

Thanks for the kind words. You know I knew this probably wasn’t going to be a story for everyone, I even tried writing an introduction to give people an idea of what they can expect. But I do think that this a story for certain people and hope that 4 measly votes don’t end up defining it.

I think part of the problem is that I kind of deal with feelings. I’m thinking that a lot of people kinda come here to escape feelings, to be overwhelmed by something. I kinda try to confront that a bit because you know that’s what’s interesting to me. Getting to approach sex with your emotional faculties in tact.

Those are the parts of my stories that usually attract the most vitriol the most. From people who mistakenly believe that denying their emotions means that they have control over them and that anything to the contrary should be met with extreme anger.

Something I've noticed now that my second story has had a little time up. The first one was I/T and from those close to 80k of views I had only a couple who favorited any of my other stories. The second was in E/V and has less than 4.5k views but a couple of dozen favorites on my older stories.

That doesn't surprise me at all. I think for the vast majority of incest readers there's only one aisle in the supermarket. They rarely go up to the deli, and hardly ever buy milk.

Your name recognition may feed that trend on I/T. A lot of people who have no actual interest in the story will look at it because they recognize your name, and then not respond to the story.

I've started looking at views in I/T in terms of good views and bad views. Early on -- and especially if your story is very visible, like a contest story at the top of the hub -- you get a lot of views from people who aren't really reading. They skim the beginning and move on. Those are bad views.

As time goes on you may collect views at a lower rate, but get proportionately more response in terms of votes and comments. Those are good views, and they're probably coming from people who are more patient, people who are following you, and people who are actually reading the story. Those people are more likely to follow up on the rest of your catalog, to vote, or comment.

E/V gets a lot less traffic than I/T from both readers and writers. There may be less tendency for "bad views" there than there is in I/T.

And now it is posted:

Edited for PS:

That story started based on a real incident in the 1980s. I had been to London to see the company doctor about crippling back pain. I was walking with a stick. I boarded a commuter train as soon as it arrived in London and took an aisle seat. Just before it left, when very crowded, a heavily pregnant woman and her sister got on. I could not offer her my seat because I could not stand but I offered her my lap. She leaned my head against her coat before opening it and pulling me against her clothed breast. I found that comforting and went to sleep against it.

When I woke up the carriage was empty except for the pregnant woman and her sister who moved to sit beside me and was asleep on my shoulder. My mouth was full of a naked nipple and part of breast. I couldn't move away because of the sister. The pregnant woman explained that I had been obviously hurting and her breast seemed to help me. It had. She was due to have the baby, their first, in a month and today had been her last day before maternity leave. She was going home to her husband and her sister was coming to stay with her for several months to help with the birth and new baby. She pulled her breast out of my mouth and adjusted her clothing. Her sister woke up as she moved. Both of them kissed me before getting out several stops before mine.

I never saw them again but I never forgot them or that breast.

Based on comments on my contribution, it appears the LW trolls are increasingly patrolling other cargories. I posted in EV to avoid them, but they still found it. And even though there's a warning at the top, they still have to read the entire thing. Of course, they must to cleanse their cum-stained incel pride by trashing the story afterwards :)

The paradox, it seems, is that one’s success brings with it a plague of trolls. It’s pointless on their points, of course, for we can delete their bilish comments and their star-bombs inevitably get washed away with the sweeps. Meh - keeps them busy and away from playgrounds, I guess.

Their comments are so over-the-top and comical yet predictable that it almost seems like it has to be a joke. But I guess some people here really are dedicated to reading stories they don't like and letting others know, over and over and over again, that they don't approve. I don't get it, but there it is.

I’m so jealous. I tried for that with White Wedding but I don’t think they actually read enough to enjoy all the little details I wrote in just for them. You’re so lucky :D

Yeah I tried triggering the novels with my own cuck parody once. That one seemed to catch the affection of people who are into that sort of thing. At least my I/T parody caught people’s ire. The negative scores for my cuddling one got swept away so it would be H if they’re were more than 2 votes on it.

I do put these in humor and satire so people should know what they’re getting into.

And with another 1600 words written tonight, my story is finally done. Well, the first draft at least. Got just past 7k words, which was slightly more than I expected, but still very manageable. I'll give it a final round of edits tomorrow, then send it off for some proofreading. Should be able to post it soon, hopefully :D

On my Halloween story I thought I was finally going to have a shorter story. About 15,000, which is short for me. But no, this one sexual encounter had to last somewhere above 4,000 words. And I have a whole other part to write. Thank god I'm starting early.
