I have written a first draft of a NonHuman category story where a woman gets a monster (of near-human intelligence) as a pet and then later fucks it. I'm a little bit concerned that, because of the master-pet relationship, as well as the kind of Mundane Fantastic setting, it might come across as a bestiality story, which I realize is forbidden on this site.
Can an editor help me to make it very clear that this is a monster, and not an animal?

If you don't depict the monster as an existing animal species you should be OK with the Literotica rules. Just clearly make it something that doesn't actually exist in nature.

You mentioned it has near-human levels of intelligence, which is indeed one of the requirements that distinguishes non-human from bestiality. As long as this intelligence is clear, for example him understanding her words and replying to it (and i don't mean like a dog that knows commands, but actually understanding normal speech) that should be a good way to show it. Also, if they don't share a language, have him at least try to talk to her in his own. The ability to speak rather than just make random noises also suggests intelligence, even if she can't understand his words. As long as this suggests it is an actual language with grammar and such he'll sound pretty intelligent. And no, you don't need to actually write it (although you could for bonus points in immersion), but you can at least describe that it sounds like he's saying words and phrases in an unknown language.

It's referred to as a "Sumatran giant lemur", which is not a real species but sounds like it could be. I'm going for a kind of plausible fantasticism here. Should I make it more overtly magical, do you think?

Okay, I will definitely look for ways to play this up. I don't think it makes sense for him to have a language of his own but I will emphasize his learning to understand human words.

It was just an example. Not all intelligent creatures have a language of their own. However, in that case you could make him at least emotionally intelligent. Understanding the nuances of her speech and reacting accordingly. Although dogs can do that too so the intelligence required might not be that high...

He could also just show human-like learning abilities. Perhaps he can learn to cook, watch TV and operate the remote, etc. Things regular animals aren't smart enough to do. You can get really creative with this, but as long as it's not just a trick you could teach an animal it should show a more human-like intelligence.

edit: just thought of Planet of the Apes as an example. Think of how those animals show they are more intelligent than normal apes (besides the language thing). They can use guns, drive cars, etc.

I reckon I'd be pushing more towards alien fantastic monster thing, not plausible real world animal thing. There's a line to be drawn, step far away from it to be safe.

Another way of looking at it - what's in it for the monster, with its interactions with the human? More than food and a cage, one trusts.
