Pelosi’s house of pain

It was the dawn of a new era. House Democrats had returned to power after eight years. And these Democrats were remarkably diverse in age, ethnicity, race, and gender. Ideology, too: Ocasio-Cortez and Tlaib belong to the Democratic Socialists of America. “Our nation is at an historic moment,” Pelosi said in January. “Two months ago, the American people spoke, and demanded a new dawn.”

Well, the sun has set. And fast. Whatever Pelosi’s plans might have been, they’ve been lost in a fog of anti-Semitism and left-wing radicalism. If Ilhan Omar isn’t causing Pelosi trouble, Ocasio-Cortez is. And vice versa. One day the speaker has to respond to the charge that Jewish money controls American foreign policy. The next she has to downplay flatulent cows. It’s enough to make one pity her. Almost.

Pelosi’s bind began on election night. As Republicans learned from 2011-2015, holding one chamber of Congress isn’t worth that much. The president and the upper chamber block legislation. Frustrated by inaction, the majority turns inward. Divisions grow. The more extreme members target leadership. The speaker spends more time negotiating with her own party than with the president and Senate majority leader.

And maybe the Democrats do, too. Even if you assume that Ocasio-Cortez’s Twitter and Instagram following counts for something in the real world, she’s not about to help Democrats win Senate races in red states. President Trump and the Republican party want nothing more than to define the choice in 2020 as between socialism and Americanism, socialism and prosperity, socialism and security. And for whatever reason, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is eager to help him.

When I saw the title of this thread I thought it was going to be a Video of Pelosi singing 'Jump Around'.

Nancy Pelosi emerges as unexpected villain at Netroots Nation

PHILADELPHIA ― The chatter at Netroots Nation, a progressive gathering that attracts thousands of people each year, was expected to be on the rising influence of the left on the 2020 presidential election. But frustration with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, once considered an avatar of San Francisco liberalism, has emerged as a constant theme ― centered on her recent criticism of progressive members of her caucus.

“She doesn’t act this way when Blue Dogs say stupid shit about other Democrats and about the party and constantly criticize the party,” said Markos Moulitsas, the founder of the popular liberal blog Daily Kos, referring to a group of conservative House Democrats. “For some reason, she’s singling out these four for a special brand of conflict. It doesn’t make any sense.”

“We deserve better than white Democratic leaders who are willing to throw people of color under the bus to maintain their privilege,” Credo Action Co-Director Heidi Hess said. “Nancy Pelosi needs to stop trying to shame and silence the progressive women of color in her caucus, stop enabling the moderates who want to compromise with Republicans’ extremist agenda, and start leading her caucus with the urgency of someone who actually cares about the communities Trump is attacking every day.”

Rahm rips AOC's chief of staff as 'snot-nosed-punk' who plays into Trump's hands

Rahm Emanuel says Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her staff are alienating moderates and playing into President Trump’s hands as the 2020 presidential election season nears.

The former Chicago mayor recently told columnist Maureen Dowd that Ms. Ocasio-Cortez’s chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, is “a snot-nosed punk” for his role in publicly challenging House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

“What votes did you get?” Mr. Emanuel, who also served as chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, said for a New York Times piece published over the weekend. “You should only be so lucky to learn from somebody like Nancy who has shown incredible courage and who has twice returned the Democratic Party to power.”

Pelosi's remarks on Trump's 'racist' comments ruled out of order

Escalating tensions on Capitol Hill erupted into a floor fight in the House of Representatives on Tuesday afternoon, as Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke in favor of a resolution condemning "racist" comments by President Trump -- and Pelosi's words were eventually ruled out of order by House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, a Democrat, affirming a decision from the House parliamentarian.

"The words used by the gentlewoman from California contained an accusation of racist behavior on the part of the President,” Hoyer said, in a decision that technically banned Pelosi from speaking on the House floor for a brief period of time. “The words should not be used in debate.”

The Democrat-controlled House then voted along party lines not to strike Pelosi's words from the record, and voted separately restore her speaking privileges. The votes effectively overruled Hoyer, as one Democrat member of Congress told Fox News, "We’re going to defend our Speaker."

Democrats admit to CNN’s Tapper: ‘The president won this one’ — ‘Squad’ hurting the p

"The president won this one,” said an unnamed Democrat politician of President Donald Trump’s “showdown” with the Democrat “Squad” of Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), and Rashia Tlaib (D-MI), according to claims made by CNN’s Jake Tapper on Wednesday.

Despite Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) public feuding with the “squad,” Tapper speculated that Trump had now made the “squad” the face of the Democrat Party.

Breitbart and an unnamed Democrat politician.

You really do your homework, dipshit.

Turns out there is actually a rule where members of Congress can’t call a sitting President or other members of Congress “racist”on the House Floor.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi got in trouble Tuesday for calling President Donald Trump’s racist tweets “racist.” It turns out there’s a congressional rule that lawmakers can’t accuse a sitting president—or any member of the House or Senate—of racism on the floor. Pelosi was even briefly prohibited from speaking at all from the floor after the parliamentarian ruled her remarks criticizing Trump’s tweets were out of order.

Too bad Nancy Pelosi broke the rule and got called on it. But you won’t hear that shit get much media time.

The real story is it was Stenny Hoyer who called her on it.

And even though Pelosi stepped out on a limb to appease the four assholes, it wasn't good enough. They went on national TV the next morning and didn't have a nice thing to say about her. Further, because they are of color they deserved special deference from the speaker.
Identity politics, long a staple of the Democrat party, is now eating the Democrat party.

And it’s only going to get worse. Diversity is a double edge sword. It can be a strength, but I’m willing to bet the Democrats are too diverse to actually maintain any firm orb unity among each individual minority going into 2020.

Video surfaces showing Nancy Pelosi advocating Republican policy on border crisis

"We have a couple of different issues we are talking about," Pelosi said in the video posted by Independent Women's Voice. "Do we have a commitment to secure the border? Yes."

"What are the options that we have available to us? Lets make sure they work," she explained. "Because while we need to address the issue of immigration and the challenge we have of undocumented people in our country, we certainly don't want any more coming in."

Identity politics must necessarily reduce itself to the lowest common denominator, the individual. The tribal crap they're trying to pull off always ends in internecine warfare.
