I was wondering why my avatar is displayed in my profile but it doesn't display when I post a comment or start a thread.

Avatar and Profile Pic are two different things but are uploaded the same way. Normally you need a certain amount of time or posts to be able to use an avatar. I think you have enough posts at 240plus but I may be wrong.
Go to the last side and look for edit avatar and upload the same way as your profile photo you should be good
