I've heard all the horror stories about LW, but it's kind of amazing to find out they're all true. At least you can laugh about it. Guess it makes a difference you already expected it to have this effect. In fact, seem to recall you saying you specifically wrote it to piss off and shock the audience there.

Oh for sure I knew what to expect. As Keith pointed out, I have a few LW stories and they average 4.7 so I know how to write there and do okay. This one was not written to score high. I wrote it purely for fun and entertainment (mine) and honestly, I wrote the most amoral but still nice heroine i could that fitted the story. It’s creeping up tho. I’ve hit 2 now. 🥰

As Tex pointed out, you can get some quite vitriolic comments and threats their but hey, you takes your chances and honestly, even the trolls I’ve had in the past have been rather nice trolls.

Just don't store anymore of your nice trolls in my basement here at the coffee shop. It took me a year to get rid of the smell.

Fresh coffee for the late morning crowd.

I wondered what the Pong was. Spraying Old spice or similar at it did little to alter the problem.

So, if you don't mind, I'll have my coffee out back. Thank You.

No problem's now. The troll has been gone for a while and I had the basement fumigated. It is now my private dungeon. I sound proofed it so now even the loudest moans and yells can't get out.

So enjoy your coffee inside with the air conditioning.

I'll even make a fresh pot.

How kind; thank you.

God willing, I'm hoping to go to a Huge greenhouse where they have some remarkable and colourful plants for me to photograph.
Time, I think, for Tea

You could probably get a funny short just by collecting all the "best" troll comments you've received. As short a time as I've been posting here I've already got a few dillies. One or two even rose above "subliterate".

Plot bunny alert:

A sit down conversation with a Loving Wives troll made from comments received. :D

Fresh coffee for the evening crew.

Isn't that were the troll's side of the conversation is completely unrelated to anything else said?

Non troll: "I had a nice chicken sandwich for lunch today."

troll: "Drink your own piss and die."

That pretty much sums it up. :D

Which is of course not far off a distinguishing indicator of psychopathy, IMMS.

Anyway - and changing the topic openly - just made an apple pie with my grandson. Three kinds of apples and Sri Lankan cinnamon, it’s beginning to smell awesome.

Oh, I write the trolls into my stories. Tex rememberers Xander, he put in appearance here in the Authors Hangout and is Now immortalized in “A Troll is Haunting Tex’s”. Or Luther, who ended up in Chinese Takeout. It’s a lot of fun but they have to be good to make it in.

Ah, Luther. Didn’t he get Taken Out? Do I sense a developing theme here?

“My object all sublime/ I shall achieve in time / to make the punishment fit the crime / the punishment fit the crime ...”

For any newbies thinking about posting in Loving Wives, I have troll proof suits and pillbox hats for sale at reasonable prices. The troll proof suits are navy surplus shark proof suits and the pillbox hats make ducking and covering quick and easy. Just squat down and close your eyes. :D

Scores are meaningless in that category and some of the comments are death threats. In most categories, the idea is to give the readers hard attacks. In Loving Wives the same applies but it is heart attacks. ;)

I misread "troll proof suits" as "troll proof sluts".

A neophytic question, what exactly is the Loving Wives category? It's not clear to me from the description on Literotica why it's so contentious. Is it like cuckolding?

Another question, when authors write series, should all the instalments be in the same category? Or could one have three instalments in three different categories?

Or Luther, who ended up in Chinese Takeout. It’s a lot of fun but they have to be good to make it in.

If he ended up in Chinese takeout, that'd be quite the meal.

When you say you write trolls into your stories, do you mean you create characters based on trolls who have written you comments? How many comments do you need before you can know a troll well enough to write a character of it?

One comment is enough. Although Xander posted a couple of times.

That's a really good question that's hard to answer. I think the category is meant for stories about wives who spread their attentions around. There are a lot of different ways to tell that story. Cuckolding is one. Burn-the-bitch (BTB) and reconcilation-at-all-cost (RAAC) are others, and the names describe the husband's reaction to the infidelity.

The readership is strongly divided, which is the basic problem in LW. You might write a story that a quarter of the readers love, but three quarters hate.

I'm not sure, but I suspect that the most highly-rated stories in LW are the ones that can't be easily categorized.

You can place them in different categories, but you will probably lose readers. I haven't shifted stories from category to category by chapter. I've gone to writing rather long stories divided internally into chapters instead of posting separate pieces.

If you are going to post the story in separate pieces, I suspect that it's best to find one category that best fits the entire story (this probably going to be a "trump" category) and put everything there.

How generous of him…

Hope the packing and moving is going well!

Amazing! I'd never heard of those acronyms, and an internet search says they're exclusive to Literotica (http://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?t=1337980).

Do the women in Loving Wives have to be wives, or can they be girlfriends? I wasn't intending to write a sequel to my April Fools story, but since some people asked for one, I feel obligated to make them happy (even if only a fourth of them). And a sequel would probably involve the woman sleeping around.

They need to be wives.

I produced my lowest-rated story because readers seemed to want it. I didn't originally want to extend the story. In retrospect, that story was really an LW story that I posted in Romance (bad mistake) then moved to EC. One of my highest-rated stories came about the same way, but in that case I had to admit to myself that I really wanted to extend it.

If you want to extend your story, then do it. If you're just doing it to respond to reader's comments, then maybe you should think about that some more.

Good to know that they need to be wives.

Why was posting it in Romance a bad mistake? Because wives sleeping around isn't romantic?

Thank you for that reminder. I needed it.

I'm going to make a huge oversimplification, but generally, readers in the Romance category want stories that are (generally) monogamous, involve a lot of character development and a slow buildup of attraction over a longer period of time before the first sex scene, and tend to be a bit of a soft-core category, for lack of a better word. Not saying it can't be rough sex, but the focus tends to be more on the emotions and feelings for each other rather than just the sex in itself, it's just the way they express that affection. Anyway, that's just me regurgitating stuff I've heard around the forums a long time ago, I'm not sure how accurate it is. But if it is, I can see why that story wouldn't go over well with that crowd indeed.

The Romance category is mostly for stories that fit the Romance genre, not for stories that are merely sentimental or romantic.

I thought my story (originally titled Regaining Lost Ground) was well-written, and I didn't understand why it was being 1*-bombed, or who was bombing it. I went to the feedback forum and asked what the problem was, and got an explanation from some of the best romance writers on Lit.

In the ideal Romance, a man and woman (specifically) who aren't initially in a relationship meet and have a common interest. They work through obstacles to build a relationship and in the end they live happily ever after, or at least happily for now. The category actually accepts a wide range of stories as long as they are well-written and romantic, but it's the typical "Romance" stories that get the big reaction.

My story was actually the exact opposite of a Romance. I started with a happily married couple, put their relationship at risk, and brought them together at the end. It was also short.

The story disappeared from the New list while it was still on the Romance hub, and the 1* bombs kept coming, so the bombs were coming from the Romance readers. I asked Laurel to move a slightly edited version (renamed to Evy's Love -- I know, it's a dumb title) in EC. The original votes stayed with the story, but its score has been slowly edging up.

It was a learning experience, and I've written a couple actual Romances since then. Valentine's for Cinderella fit the formula exactly and was very well-received. Her Bodyguard (and His Dirty Valentine) is a sibcest story in I/T, but in every other regards it's a Romance that (as a reader pointed out) could have been written without the taboo aspect and still been good.

People seem to know the ins-and-outs of Lit. Is there a place for such info? Sometimes I feel like Fraser walking into Cheers for the first time. Especially, what's to be said about Laurel. I feel that I'm missing out on how the site works.

Good morning to all you coffee slurpers. A fresh pot to make life easier.

Happy Hump Day.

JPGmvny, welcome to the madhouse of the AH. There is some information on Lit in the stickies at the top of the AH. A lot of it is locked in the brains of us old farts that have been here forever. Lit started out as a site for Laurel to read erotica written by her on-line friends. To say that it has gotten out of hand is an understatement.

You can ask questions here or in PM.

Today, I need to make a run to town.

Literotica is owned and operated by Laurel and Manu, who are a couple. Laurel is the solely responsible for Literotica's content, so if you're an author here, then you need to mind your manners. Manu works the technical side, and he seems to have a staff.

It's pretty remarkable that one couple with minimal help can assemble and operate a site as large and complex as Lit, but they do it (and have done it for more than twenty years) with a huge personal commitment, for which we should always be grateful but sometimes fail at.

TxRad pointed out the stickies at the top of the author's forum. There are also a "resources" link on the story index page (where the categories are listed), and an About/Help link at the bottom of the home page.

Thanks for the explanations, Taken and NW! Fascinating that category is so critical to stories being matched with the audiences who would like them. I'll need to understand them better. Do you find that tags play a significant role?

Taken, I'm still waiting to see your mastermind title!

JPGmvny, I feel the same way. All I know is that Laurel''s level of skill is NonHuman.
