Reports are beginning to surface that a Russian submarine fired on a U.S. submarine inside U.S. territorial waters off the coast of Alaska.

Citing anonymous military sources, the site reports that the incident took place in American territorial waters near Alaska, when a US submarine intercepted a Russian nuclear submarine.

The Russian submarine that was escorting the strategic submarine reportedly responded with a Balkan 2000 torpedo, which breached the American submarine’s hull.

First reports reaching DEBKAfile’s military sources say that a US submarine intercepted a Russian nuclear sub in American waters opposite Alaska. The Russian sub escorting the nuclear submarine responded with a Balkan 2000 torpedo and scuttled the US vessel. Urgent consultations in both the White House and the Kremlin were taking place on Tuesday night. US Vice President Mike Pence called off an appearance in New Hampshire after being recalled to Washington for a conference called by President Donald Trump without explanation.

While these reports are unconfirmed, Mike Pence did abruptly cancel his trip to New Hampshire on July 2nd. According to Randy Gentry, a representative for the Vice President:

"There's been an emergency callback," Gentry told those waiting. "The vice president was asked to return to Washington so at this time we’re going to cancel today’s event."

Pence's top aide, Marc Short, told reporters that the reason for the cancellation would become known “in a few weeks."

EDIT: In trying to track down any other sources, one made the tangential link that the recent report of 14 Soviet submariners dying in a fire onboard a secret Russian sub is related to this possible event. The suggestion is the Russian sub was damaged in the encounter but was able to limp back to its base where the fire broke out.

it'll be interesting to see if this gets confirmed by (other) reliable sources and what t's responses to p will be.

The boat was identified by Russian-language news service RBC as Losharik (AS-12), a nuclear-powered submarine that is widely believed to be a key asset for the Russian Main Directorate of Deep-Sea Research, also known as GUGI.

GUGI develops and operates a fleet of specialized submarines that Russia uses for deep sea and Moscow’s most covert operations. The organization reports directly to Russian military intelligence — the GRU — rather than the Russian Navy.

As for what Losharik does, it’s suspected the Russian government has used the sub’s deep-sea diving capability to extened Russia’s territorial claims to the sea floor under the Arctic Ocean. In 2012, Losharik was part of a large Russian naval exercise in the Arctic, collecting samples to prove the Lomonsov and Mendeleyev Ridges on the sea floor are part of the Russian continental shelf, according to Unconstrained Foreign Direct Investment: An Emerging Challenge to Arctic Security, a 2017 report by CNA.

Lots of unconfirmed things floating around. But I am hearing more frequently than not, the US ship sunk with no survivors. But dont take anything as fact yet.

The latest is that the damaged Russian sub Losharik had a fire in the battery room, and that 14 sailors died from smoke inhalation. No US assets were involved.

Any more news on this snowflake?

Your most trusted source, CNN hasn't even mentioned this in over an hour that I have seen. Are you confusing this with an earthquake? Or are you just easily triggered? Your butt buddy ror likes that word.

I think I saw an ICBM flying over my neighborhood. WWIII?

Someone is attention whoring again. Hasn't had any attention from Emerson in a while.

Should probably bring out the sharpie and draw a picture of a clit on the top of his micropenis.

That will "draw" the attention it needs.

Bump for sharpies and more Russian hoaxes.

Two delusional attention whores.

Interesting that the Russian sub was protecting a submersible designed to be carried under the belly of a larger sub, is operated by the GUGI - Chief Directorate for Deep Water Research -, and whose main task is "monitoring foreign underwater communication lines, recovering from deep water interesting weaponry and military equipment and protecting Russia's own underwater communications cables".

The map shows where the sub returned to in relation to the distance from the Alaskan coast.

However, experts are questioning parts of the story about why so many men, in particular officers, died fighting a fire.

But Pavel Felgenhauer, a military analyst at the independent Russian daily Novaya Gazeta, said it was a mystery why 14 sailors died from smoke inhalation when they would have all carried oxygen masks at all times and had access to emergency on-board oxygen supplies.

It is also a mystery, he wrote, why so many senior officers were on one mission. He speculated that they might have been testing new secret equipment or examining US seabed devices placed to track Russian submarines.

Mr Felgenhauer also asked why Russia would use a secret submersible capable of diving down to 6,000m (19,685ft), when the Barents Sea is on average only 220m deep.

Does the plot thicken?

Take your nose out of politics for ten minutes and smell the blooming lilies and gladiolas.

At this point, I would just revert to your default.

Trump did it and in collusion with the Russians.

That is the only thing that makes sense from here on out.

BBC and cnn would never lie.

I heard Putin was responsible for the quakes.

Restitution and reparations will be forthcoming.
